Ages of the Federation is a new total conversion mod for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. This mod takes place in the Enterprise and Original series eras, focusing on the conflict between the early Federation and Klingon Empire. A resurgent Romulan Star Empire, angry and still licking its wounds after their defeat to Earth and her allies waits in the shadows, ready to take advantage of any of misstep by either the warring powers. The Xindi, new to the galactic stage are also eager to forge their own path.

Though the various Xindi races pledged to reconvene the Council following the near-disastrous assault on Earth, relations were cold and tensions were high. Though the bonds between the Primates and Arboreals remained intact, the Aquatics were on the verge of leaving the Council altogether and going into isolation. Even more seriously, the Reptilian-Insectoid alliance lay in tatters, and though the Insectoids were willing to return to the Council, the Reptilians, for a time, remained defiant. Adjusting to life after the collapse of the Delphic Expanse (now known as the Delphic Region) was difficult for everyone, but accepting that they had been the unknowing pawns of duplicitous benefactors in a plot that would eventually have resulted in the destruction of the Xindi was especially difficult for the Reptilians. In a flurry of humiliation, shame and misdirected anger, the Reptilians cut ties with their Xindi cousins, declaring that the Council had turned against them and that they would never again be looked upon as equals.
For a time, the rogue Reptilians waged a small-scale civil war against the other Xindi races, making half-hearted assaults on Primate, Arboreal and Aquatic settlements that were easily either withstood or repelled. In a way, this development only strengthened the reconvened Council, driving the Aquatics to solidify their support for continued coexistence, while the Insectoids practically begged for the chance to come to the Council's defence by chasing down Reptilian forces.
