Personally, mods that pull heavily from a existing IP are almost always ignored by me unless it's a IP that hasn't been raped by dozens of mods, like Metroid which AFAIK only has two mods based off it, Metroid Online and Project Valkyrie, and PV veils it. But I especially like TC mods that have original gameplay and don't care about the premise if it's original in gameplay. Though I think DBZ mods should be banned from the internet. Just make one and perfect it or something, damnit!

If anything you might need TF2, but I only see the TF2 requirement in the Server download description so the client might just need any Source game in which case it'll run.

Assuming the Combine slave fighters at the time were Vortigaunts and headcrabs, there's no real downside to the radiation, infact it'd probably make freakish poison fast headcrabs or something.

They probably will make one, but don't expect it to be out soon unless you want it to be like HL:Source and have almost no improvements over the original.

The problem that leads to the death of many mods is working within the confines of a premade engine is hard at times, and makes more original concepts difficult to implement. For example, look at Metroid Online, for Halo CE. It's a total conversion based off Metroid Prime, and got cancelled then restarted once or twice because the morphball in Metroid (which allows the player to instantly morph to a tiny ball for rolling through passages and such) is practically impossible to code in Halo CE, and many other parts were difficult to code... not because of reallife, but because making TCs on certain engines can be very difficult at times.

Vortiguants are allies with the Resistance (the group that Gordon is part of that rebels against the Combine) because of something that happened near the end of HL1, forgot what. And you can't kill allies because HL2 has friendly fire off (which means it's impossible to directly kill a ally, and killing some allies by creative means results in a game-over). And there's only going to be one more episode, as the episodes are meant to be a trilogy, though presumably there will be a HL3/4 (since the episodes are meant to essentially be HL3, split into three parts, Valve could release it as HL4) sometime in the next 8 years.
