Fallout Fixt

Mod review

Overall, it did fix a decent bit of stuff, but the game was still left in a less than enjoyable state. I think more QOL could have been included in order to make this a smoother experience.

MINERVA

Mod review

A fine mod that has a lot of action and a bit of worldbuilding I guess. It's not really that engaging with its story, but it is lengthy and full of combat scenarios. I would probably Not Recommend it unless you wanted a new Half-Life 2 shooting gallery - you could do a lot worse.

ARCHIPELAGO

Mod review

A really clunky mod that feels really empty and has some poor voice acting. I hate to bash on it, but the voice lines feel untouched and the audio for them shows. The story is also just not very interesting, and the level layout is super weird and bland. It's a bit creepy with its atmosphere from time to time, but other than that it just feels pointless.

Final Verdict: 2/10 (Bad)

Neon Racer

Mod review

A really random and disjointed mod that absolutely feels unfinished. There isn't really any horror, and it ends really prematurely. The aesthetic is also not that clean and the environments are confusingly arranged.

Final Verdict: 2/10 (Bad)

Arcane Dimensions

Mod review

A great mod that gives a ton of extra content to the Quake experience! There is so much to unpack here (almost triple the amount of content in the original, maybe even more than that), but I'll just focus on the feel for the most part. Levels are impressively large here, and most do a good job at balancing discovery, exploration, and linear segments. I found this mod to be a "bit" bloated at times, especially since there aren't any unlockable to take between levels.

However, the presentation is simply gorgeous here, with impressive vistas and landscapes deemed impossible in the base game. This really feels like a modern Quake add-on, and surely could be mistaken as official content to the odd player. Additionally, the combat is even faster and more creative than the OG build, and this brings out the best of the engine and game flow.

This is a must-play expansion if you are a fan of the original, as you'll get heaps of content and new memories out of this joyride! I can easily Recommend this if you're even remotely a fan of retro FPS games.

Final Verdict: 8/10 (Great)

STARTER PACK

Mod review

While this fixes a large number of bugs in the game, it also introduces many more that make the experience feel cluttered. Additionally, it isn't super vital to have considering some of the potential bugs can cause crashes and slowdowns that don't exist in the main game (there are other bugs which cause this in the true vanilla experience sadly). Overall, a ripped band-aid for an experience that is just too broken for all but the most hardcore to enjoy.

Final Verdict: 3/10 (Poor)

When Day Breaks

Mod review

I found this mod to be creepy at first, but after completing it I just felt like I wasted my time. The little bits of worldbuilding/story were just sort of lame to me, and the payoff was bland. The physics are wonky for the escape sections, and the monster segments are also insanely buggy at times. This really just felt unpolished, which sucks as its one of the only actually "finished" mods for this game out there...

Final Verdict: 3/10 (Poor)

Hollow

Mod review

Short mod that provides a little bit of puzzle solving and a pretty scary monster sequence. Only took me about 30 minutes to complete since I took my time to try and look around. It was definitely playable, but I would've preferred a bit more exploration to do. Maybe some extra notes or secrets too? I would probably Not Recommend playing this one to most players, but it isn't awful by any means. Could've used some more polish and it would've been better.
