Half Stories: Human in escape

Mod review

I went in with pretty high hopes as alot of the comments seemed rather positive but the reality is quite different.

The first map looked more like a gmod save file, random objects and buildings thrown together to make the place look like some kind of base. Next to no cover between you and the combine soldiers shooting at you across a large open area and no clear indication of what you need to do or where to go. One way you could have improved this part is to give the player an object to pick up with the gravity gun to use as cover such as a combine barrier.

After walking through the tunnel I was throwing straight back to the menu. Looks like a broken level transition.

Second map was more of the same but with zombies. I hit my first issue when I saw an arrow pointing up to the roof but I couldn't jump up there. I didn't see any objects to help me climb up so I had to resort to noclipping up. I gave up once I pressed the button in the tower as not only did it not do anything it didn't even play a sound plus I could keep pressing it. If you're gonna have the player press a button to progress then make it clear that it actually did something to avoid confusing your player and having them wonder "what the **** did that do?"

That's about as far as I got before packing it in. Maybe it gets better down the road but I'm gonna let someone with more patience find out. I'm giving it a two instead of a one though because despite all the faults it looks like you atleast tried to make a decent map which is more then I could say for some maps.

My advice going forward is to look up HL2 map reviews or tutorials on google and youtube. Check out a channel called Custom Gamer as he seems to know his stuff when it comes to mapping.
