Still here but still working on an all consuming work project wrapping up by late March. GOOD news is that the linux build works, but working through some stability problems due to differences in compilers requiring code changes. Good news also is that the Windows build geta better at the same time due to sharing all the code, and that OSX builds will also be coming.

I'll report back with updates. Thanks for understanding.

Hey RadRed,

I saw your review about Jedi Fighter from Sept. 16, 2016 aaying it doesn't work and only crashes Jka. I'd like to help because it certainly doesn't crash if installed and started correctly.

Are you sure you have installed OpenJK before installing Jedi Fighter as the instructions say? It doesn't use the jka engine and would crash if you tried.

Please check out the readme.txt file in the Jedi Fighter install directory for details on how to install and run it. Alternatively, read the beta 3 article on the moddb page for the same instructions.

Let me know how it goes. With so few reviews, a 7/10 makes a big difference!

Sorry all, Jedi Fighter 1.0 is delayed to January 2017. Too much to get done and not enough time with work and family in the mix.

Hey Matt, I haven't yet. I'm trying to get some of the features in rend2 (the modern OpenGL renderer in OpenJK - based off the renderer2 from ioq3) to at least have parity with those from the original renderer. Things like mirrors and weather effects don't work correctly yet, but I'm working on them. Next is finishing up some SSAO changes, and then might look at DOF.

EDIT: I really want to do a client-side cloth sim for the capes, which isn't tied to the renderer, but is higher priority than DOF for me right now... Gotta prioritize or this thing will drag on forever :)

All, please re-download JEDI FIGHTER beta 3 if you already got it. The first one had a bug keeping the AI from saving what it learned when running sv_pure 1. Now it works.

All, I just uploaded a new copy of JEDI FIGHTER beta 3. The first one had a problem with the AI learning when running sv_pure 1. Now it works. Please download it again if you already got it!

Thanks! And congrats on the launch of the Sith Wars II!

It's using the standard OpenJK engine with the vanilla renderer right now, which I'm not sure supports split screen in full screen. It should work by putting in a custom resolution and running in windowed mode, but some UI elements would be split across the seam.

I can make some options to offset UI elements away from the seam. I'm planning on making some renderer changes for beta 4 (SSAO, stencil shadows, etc), so I'll see if split screen would be a reasonable change.

If you're willing to help test, that would be great.

I got the "Name..." piece to hide if you're spectating.

Now you can also use the gamepad to move around and select a new fighter.

That's exactly what it is. When you have bots, they show both as being the same though.

I need to figure out a way to hide the "Name: ..." text when it's two bots fighting...

Ugh, I've got a bug that shows up when starting a game with a map where the filename is longer than 8 characters. The max info string size gets exceeded right before adding the path to jedi fighter, so it ends up dropping out of jedi fighter and back into vanilla JA. Going to finish chasing this one tomorrow night.

Release postponed by a few days at worst, but by one day at best.

Temmie, I found a bug with fonts in resolutions that use a 4:3 aspect ratio. Try one of the other resolutions from the setup screen. That should solve it until beta 4.

I figured out what was wrong. The fonts were tiny in the menus and in the HUD / scoreboard if the resolution was set to a 4:3 aspect ratio. This is partially fixed in beta 3 but beta 4 (or 1.0) will take care of it completely.

Sorry for the bug and not taking your issue seriously!

HI, is this something you're seeing on the Steam version of Jedi Academy? If so, try exiting JA, and starting it over again.

It sounds like you don't have it installed correctly. Please go back and follow the install instructions carefully. If you still have an issue, please start a thread in the "help" section of the forums.

Hi temmie1,

One other person reported a similar issue the first time they tried it with Steam. They said the second time they tried it that it worked by itself.

First, let's make sure you have it properly installed.

(For the following steps, I'm going to refer to your Jedi Academy installation directory. If you don't know where that is, get out of big picture mode, right click on Jedi Academy in the steam library view, go to properties, click on the "Local Files" tab, and then click on the "BROWSE LOCAL FILES" button. This will open up explorer in your Jedi Academy directory.)

1) Unzip the OpenJK engine (openjk-2016-01-11-4ad9ed4a-windows.1.zip from Moddb.com) to the steam Jedi Academy gamedata directory. It should be something like C:\Program Files (x86)\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Jedi Academy\GameData.

2) Unzip Jedi Fighter beta 2 (jedifighter_beta2.zip from Moddb.com) to the same directory.

3) Go into the jedifighter directory within the Jedi Academy\gamedata directory and right click on SETUP.BAT and choose "Run as Administrator".

4) Run jedifighter by double clicking on JF_CLIENT_OJK.bat in the Jedi Academy\gamedata\jedifighter directory.

If you do all of this and still have the problem, then exit Jedi Academy and try it a second time. If it still doesn't work, let me know.

The batch file does work in the background to set up a symbolic link in your filesystem so OpenJK will work with your jedi fighter directory. It doesn't make icons on your desktop or start menu if that's what you're expecting.

Now that you ran SETUP.bat, you can start the game by running JF_CLIENT_OJK.bat.

If you need further help, post in the forum and I'll help you out.
