This map was well received, the primary complaint being that there were a few awkwardly placed spawn points.

I have re-done the spawn points, and added a bit more distance between the spawning areas and the diamonds.

This new and hopefully final version is up now. I hope it works out!

haha.. yeah, there are a few places where I get counts in the low 30's.

I've made a new version sans the two giant towers, ie. 100,000 lower object count. The new one runs smoooooth as buttah. ;)

will upload soon.

Thanks dude.

This map has been updated to add more cover and desloppify some inadvertant sloppiness.

oh.. maybe.

i took it as though he thought i was posing as an American in order to bash them or something, and he cleverly found me out as an arrogant Canadian by clicking on my profile, and proceeded to out me by posting the link to my profile. haha..

i'm confused..

haha.. love the comments! [let's fan those flames!]

i've uploaded an updated version sans useless occlusion blocks, currently awaiting authorization.
i just realized that i inadvertantly left in a few blocks that i was experimenting with, which led to some magical cloacking/decloaking objects.

ha, now that you mention it, I see it too.

ah, Morrowind... in the top 5 games of all time, hands down... unless you want to raise your hands...

It's bit of a beast, but I get anywhere between 40 -> 60 fps on average. Should be totally playable on a mid-range rig with a decent vid card.

I hate the performance range we have to deal with as pc mappers.. it'd be so much easier creating console maps, knowing exactly where the brick wall lies.

I can't seem to hold back, thus many find my maps laggy.

I hear that man.. I had several ideas that I wanted to enter, but my CN Tower took so damn long that I didn't get around to the others.

Anyway, I'm very impressed with your work thus far.. hope to see more from you soon!

Pretty cool map.

One thing you really need to work on is polishing your maps. For example, the rollercoaster tracks do not all line-up properly, the train is not on the tracks, the arches on the boat aren't all flush, some of the barge lights have their bases sunken into the wall while others don't, etc. etc. etc.

Your concepts are bang-on, but you really need to pay attention to detail, particularly if you want to do this for a living. Use the gizmo to set the pieces where you want them, but you should be spending hours entering precise corrections into the position boxes in order to have everything line-up perfectly, or as close to it as possible.

As it is, great idea, ok execution. It's giving off a bit of a sloppy vibe for me, but I still give it a 7.

btw, LOVE the rock-man.

damn.. the ladders were working, but there was a small gap between them and the steel beams below, so i added those concrete bases, and now they don't seem to work.

i'll fix the problem, but unfortunately it's too late for the contest.

oddly enough, if you approach the ladder then jump, it gives you the option of climbing, but it won't unless you jump. weird.

Nice work on the facade, and the map in general.

If this wasn't supposed to be a Petra map, I would say it is excellent, but i was a bit disappointed by the lack of similarities to the real thing.

The surrounding landscape, interior and exterior of the Treasury are not very Petra-esque at all.
The facade, though impressive, is not to scale, and doesn't closely resemble the real thing.

It may seem as though I'm poo-pooing on your map, but I actually gave it an 8. It's a great map, but it doesn't really resemble what it's supposed to.

Anyhoo, I only bother to criticize maps that show potential, and with a few revisions, methinks it could quite easily become an undisputed 9, or maybe even a 10.

Again, nice work.

thanks dude.

admittedly, the boats are almost entirely useless, but i'm sure the avid Far Cry 2 boaters will appreciate them.. if there is such a thing as an avid Far Cry 2 boater..

as for the hand glider, if you can control it, it's a speedy way to get to the control point at the bottom of the rig, but otherwise it's pretty pointless too.

meh, i've got nothing against the pointless. ;)

piper, all the fighting takes place within it.

Masta J, I accidentally deleted the level, emailed the moddb crew to reinstate it, but the older version was reinstated, so I re-uploaded the newer version.

ha, you have my apologies.

Regarding the detail, I considered adding living spaces, etc. as I did in my North Sea map, but decided that it just wouldn't fit stylistically. I'm not concerned with realism, as two African factions vying for control of a giant tower in downtown TO isn't exactly a good base from which to build a realistic level.

I didn't want to clutter the map with detail, particularly considering that very few of the detail objects available would even look half-decent stylistically, and wouldn't be practically necessary in my opinion.
I feel as though there is aready enough cover, besides which, some prefer to fight in the open.
Regarding MG nests, I don't think anybody uses them anyway, and with so many bottlenecks, MG nests would be extremely annoying, not to mention that they dont fit in stylistically either.

I assure you, with the amount of time I spent on this map, I thought of all these things that you've mentioned, and even tried adding some of them, but in the end, I thought it best to leave it as it currently is.

I'm sure I will revisit it in future, but I think I need to take a break from it for a while and come back with a fresh mind.
Spending countless hours precisely rotating thousands of objects takes its toll. I hope to never see an iron beam again! haha..

Cheers!

Thanks for your comments Himither.

The reason for there being nothing but the tower is that the height restriction didn't all me to create to tower to scale height-wise, so any objects below would have looked wrong. If I bump-up the fog, it's hard to see the ground below, so one can sort of get the feeling of being in the real thing.
Also, I used thousands of iron beams, colonial walls, etc. in constructing to tower, so if i had tried to create a city below, the framerate would really suffer. As it is, the framerate is on the lower side of accepable.
Finally, in addition to all of the above, it's impossible to create any half-way realistic version of downtown Toronto in the editor without spending a year doing it, and having a super-computer to run it. I didn't want to make an awful-looking mess of a city, which is what it would have been given the time/processing constraints.

So, in a nutshell, it just wouldn't make any sense whatsoever to create anything apart from the Skypod.
[I really wish there wasn't a height restriction however.. I would have loved to do the entire tower to scale, as was the original plan.]

As for the door at the highest floor, it is essential for relieving some bottlenecks. One can climb a ladder from the third floor, bypassing the fourth floor altogether, and enter the fifth floor from the roof. Although it is steep, you can climb up the roof.
Without this option, the stairs would be the only way up or down, which could get tiresome when playing CTD.

I love the fully-destructible facade of the building. Lots of fun.

My only criticism is that you've got some flashies on the doors, and I wish you'd put the same level of detail found on the 1st and 2nd floors into the entire building. Roof-top access would be awesome as well. Oh, and the UBI sign needs some attention. haha..

Great idea though.. a few tweaks here and there and this will be a great map methinks. Certainly one of the better concepts I've seen.

Constructive criticism is always welcome!
