@developers: You know you need to provide the sourcecode of the games to everyone. (that's the GPL license, since Darkplaces is GPL, you need to follow that. E.g. your own modifications. The assets (art, sound etc) may stay closed (a custom license e.g.).

True the price is quite hefty initially. (for some common features, like rt-shadows, etc)

No you cannot commercial exploit your projects made with the SDK.
For commercial exploitations you need a license. Details about this license are still to be announced. E.g. pricing, terms etc..

- UDK is a standalone toolset, no need for UT3.
- UDK is NOT a modding tool.
- Projects made with UDK work standalone, no need for your players to have UDK installed.
- It's basicly Unreal Engine 3 (the full thing), but binary only.

If everything related to the game is free (thus no addons to purchage, or anything of that kind, no advertising incomes etc etc), then your team does not need a commercial license (the 99USD license that is).
