Anyone knows how to easily play with friends? i've tried just about everything but my knowledge of programming is very limited. When i just create a server via the main menu my friend cant join (even with hamachi) , says something about only "locals" can join. pls help

I don't even know how to install 1.3.3 and in download for 1.4.0 there was supposed to be a guide on how to install this but i didn't see any of the sort,how do i live with myself?
