Mod review

An exceptional conversion mod for Half-life.

Half-Life: Field Intensity

Mod review

It feels like an authentic Half-life experience of the early 2000s. In an alternate timeline, I feel like this could have been Opposing Force. It even does some things better. I like the implementation of the squad system in the HUD. And the areas are more well designed for NPC companions compared to the retail game which always lacked in this area. However, I found this mod to be lacking wow moments. Mostly just a stale grind. Its certainly not bad. It's well designed and competent. I just found fighting through it to be one-note and tedious.

They Hunger

Mod review

Other than some of the level design choices being rendered questionable by the passing of time, this mod remains very fun and a gem from my childhood.

Half-Life : Echoes

Mod review

I think its the best Half-life mod ever. It's so good, I think would be called the best Half-life expansion if it were released as a retail product.

This mod has no weaknesses. Humor, level design, presentation, intrigue, pacing, visuals. They are all exquisite.

I commend the author for how well he understands pacing, level design, and the construction of action set pieces.

Delta Particles

Mod review

This mod does some stuff amazing, other stuff needs improvement. First, its overall a solid mod definitely worth of a try. It has a very strong first half. That part is an 8/10. This mod does very well with atmosphere, texture quality, level detail, and level design. Where it falls short on is its combat encounters. Enemies are often just placed in front of you. This leads to cheesing. It also leads to the mod's second half downfall where there are an INSANE amount of enemies. It becomes boring. The combat encounters needed more build-up and intrigue. To its merit, it adds new weapons that are fun to use. But you will always have an abundance of ammo and health. I also think the mod lost its narrative thread. I wasn't sure what I was doing in the second half. Escape? Finding friends? Saving technology? What was the plan? It's an 8/10 first half with 6/10 second half, evening out to a flawed but worthwhile experience.
