Brutal Voxel Doom

Mod review

UPDATE: The monsters only version is a GREAT start to something big. There is an opportunity to do a lot more but congrats and I hope lots of other people give it a chance and provide feedback.

The author has really tapped into something I think a lot of people wanted the first time they saw Cheello's amazing work. There is a lot of good thinking here and lots of hard work. Unfortunately, it replaces Brutal Doom. Unlike Cheello's work that simply replaces the sprites with voxel models. I'd suggest letting Brutal Doom (which is now in beta for the next big release) do what Brutal Doom does best. Don't fork the part everyone loves. BD doesn't have voxel models it does have great gameplay additions. I'd also like to see some refinement of the models and the pain states. Many are not the same standard as BD or Cheelo's. There are also missing frames of animation. Again, lots of great work but this has a long way to go to fulfilling its promise. I hope the project continues.

Quake Combat+

Mod review

Many reviewing are missing the point. The creator took Quake 1.5 and started from there. He is taking the best and making it applicable to ANY Quake1 experience. Q15 was abandoned almost FIVE years ago FWIW.

Combat+ is sublime. He knows the rhythm of original quake and is applying some rocking riffs to make game play fresh, more visceral and faster paced. The author is great at taking feedback and has breathed a new experience that feels updated. It isn't Quake as released, it isn't Quake 1.5, it is an experience to apply where you want it. I F*@&! love it.

Quake 1.5

Early access mod review

This is insanely good. Replaying Quake felt really stiff and slow - this makes Quake what my memory claimed all along. The author has done an excellent job capturing the feel and intent of the original.
