There really ought to be both a PVE(lore) and a PVP version of the Borg that's selectable. It's not like there isn't room on the race selection page.

When I see the Borg I should fear, I shouldn't be going "oh that poor AI. So vulnerable..."

This ship is an incredible PITA to even tell where it's oriented. Could there be at least a ghostly silhouette?

What weapons are considered to be "pulse weapons" for the purposes of the Vasari pact, and what are "energy weapons"?

I was thinking that if Ions, Lasers, AND Turbolasers were all energy weapons, then the Vasari Rebel... er "Ascended" corvette would be extremely deadly against both rebels and imperials.

Also, it looks visually to me like some cruisers... at least Katana dreadnaughts... have multiple banks of weapons like a capship does? Is this a unique ability for some cruisers? Do the techs that increase banks also affect them? Or is it simply that dreads have side weapons to allow them to attack more than one target?

Thanks. I better understand the game now.

That was a lot of response, thank you very much for that. It seems that a lot of my confusion was from comparing my colony cap to the heavy cruisers... as you know, cap ships in vanilla are much stronger than other ships, so I assumed the other ships must be caps.

Do you mind if I re-ask a question, hoping for a more specific answer? I was wondering if the damage tables for vanilla still apply. Frontline ships killing long-range ones is true for most games, I was wondering if the specific weaknesses were still the same: Fighters against LRF's, bombers against heavy cruisers, LRF's against light cruisers, light cruisers against utility cruisers, etc.

Again, thank you for taking the time to answer. I'll check the tutorial, but is there a FAQ somewhere lying around as well?

Where should I look for gameplay tips for those converting from vanilla? I have some questions, like:

Do the weaknesses of ship types against other ship types still apply? Will a steamrunner (LRF?) get cleaned out by corvettes? Do corvettes even exist now?

Why are there what seem to be massive numbers of NPC capital ships in a random game? I built a full complement (supply upgraded once) of light carriers, loaded them up with bombers, and it took so long to kill just one NPC capital ship that others started spawning in during the fight. And there's another system 2 jumps away from homeworld that has a latinum refinery guarded by over 9 Ferengi Capitals. How the hell am I supposed to deal with that?

Honestly, I can't tell what's a capital and what isn't. I'm forced to assume that anything that has damage numbers on par with my colony cap (north of 100 damage) is a capital ship.

The reason I'm using light carriers is because it seems the only way to not get totally wiped by any planetary defense force above colonization II. Everything else gets wrecked by special abilities that apply DOTs or cripples, like spinning.

How can I tell if a given NPC ship can bomb a planet? I assume my colony cap can, but there's no indication of this anywhere on the tooltip.

Also, are the tooltips true? It looks like the federation doesn't get culture rate bonuses from culture research, but rather a form of ... I forget the name, pervasive economy? Where you take a percentage of all trade conducted.
