Hello there and welcome to my profile, I work with technology in ICT. So is there anything I can help you with today? Information about Games, HTML, Movie info, Normal TV-Series or something else perhaps? [Where is everybody?]

- ModDB is not as active as before -

In the past years I have been a member of the website, I've seen every type of difference through the years, as I have been here on the website.
Things that have been good and not so good, first time I started with news was at the beginning of 2012 april and until now. I've noticed that it has become less and less people who watch the news and less comments.

Some people have come and asked me for help with different things so their profiles should be better and so on. I discovered that ModDB was not as active in June 2014 so for avoiding it, I started with competitions for people to come back and new people would join the website.

There has been some argument with people on the web, commercials that nobody likes, people waiting for mod that never comes, things that disappear which people liked and some errors with different things. This is what scares people so that some of us leave the page without a word.

So now I ask you out there reading this if you can come with suggestions that this website may become more popular or to get more people to the website. I would not like to see this incredible good website should lose people who are here now.

Any suggestions for keeping this website more active?

Put out a small link on the front page of ModDB about Adblock. Not everyone knows what Adblock is and since there is a lot of advertising here, will Adblock be a very good thing for all who visit the page.

That would be slashing ModDB revenue, and probably would be frowned upon tbh.

They would gut their own revenue completely.

I avoid adblock when youtubing my fav youtubers for example.

Moddb is mostly used for mods right? I know I found out about Moddb through Filefront since I had Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption and was looking for good mods for it. Like you mentioned incomplete and/or no updates on mods, arguments and commercials these are reasons for people to leave. I remember a time when Republic at War use to get so many comments a day now there is hardly any activity because why? Z3r0x the leader left Moddb, now there is hardly anything going on and no release of 1.2, its been 4 years since 1.1 so people gave up.

My opinion on how to make it more popular.

If you look at other sites like Nexus mods they have a great system where they feature the top mods at the time and break things into better categories. As well as more appealing and easy to navigate. Lets have Skyrim for an example:
Moddb: Moddb.com
Nexus: Nexusmods.com?

In my opinion Nexus layout looks better.
Nexus has Nexus Mod Manager which is easy to use and auto installs mods as well as remove them. Moddb has something like that but not as well implemented. Hopefully Moddb supports better ways to get mods and a more appealing mods sections in the new update coming soon for Moddb, we should see more people come in.

Thanks Joachim for the dedication you provide us.
Well, we noticed that as well. First of all, I remember someone posting on our Steam group that "mods were dying in favor of indie games", in other words that people prefer to play Indie games than mods... I don't really believe it. But it seems there is less mods in the making, that's true.

That being said, we'll need to remember that some AAA games don't allow mods anymore. Remember the problem with Call of Duty ? Another problem is that people sometimes just want to see what they want, they do not interact with the community, they just want to find that download button. Making events is a great thing seriously, and I'd like to discuss it more with you. I'll keep you in touch soon.

Honestly, Mod-db fell into stagnation and is now standing on the precipice of an abyss to sheer boredom. There are more trolls and wolf packs around. There's an increasing number of clubs that look like ghost towns. Most members merely check images and snoop around.

I'm not an ardent player, so I rarely check mods. There's a slow progress and most mods are dead. I found a G-T-A conversion/mod. I was confused and didn't know how to make it work, so I asked admins for help, but they deliberately ignored me.

Where is everybody? Here - Moddb.com

You did your best to promote and sustain Mod-db. Other individuals like S-M are your equals. Even I used to be an influential and supportive member 5 years ago. I was cool for 2 years and somewhat irrational and unpredictable later on. All in all, there's a balance now.

You know I had several popular clubs, countless friends and numerous conversations and debates. I used to help members. I entertained them, gave them tips, encouraged them to improve their lives and so on.

Recently, I wanted to create a mod-db podcast about games and movies and a web-cam debate chat-room. Here's the link - Moddb.com you'll find my comment down there. Admins ignored me. Well, I'm not gonna do it now. I have no time for that anymore. I learned that when an assertive admin says no or ignores you, it's better to just keep a low profile. Well, I suggested this idea 3 times. You know via pm and forum, to no avail.

It's not your fault. The issue is somewhere else - Youtube.com (you may interpret it as you like)

First of all i liked all my time on moddb for some 4 years now or something.
As im not a developer, the main reason i enjoy browsing is because of the dudes u know here and have some goofs and gafs (and a lot of laughs) together.

You pretty much have the social community side and the modding/developing side. Idk how to improve the modding side.. its pretty good as is, but its hard not to notice the lot of stagnant or dead mods.
its also sad to see unmoddable triple a games time and again.

another thing, i usually voted for the moty awards but this year i didnt care at all. my voting wouldntve changed bcs the mods i used to vote for still werent released lol. There wasnt much chance that theyd win and if they did then.. is there a prize? i dont want to be materialistic but it adds some pazaz.

Social wise what worked in 2010 is lagging behind now. The comment list of your own profile was a big help but its still a nightmare to trak your comments or any replies to it.
Dead groups clogh up a lot of the site. Even the humor and satire group aint wat it was when started out. Its usually unrewarding to start a new group lol, the audience is so limited that they usually die out..

ther thing that could be streamlined further imo is the layout like my buttah boi bisszy pointed out, nexus is going stronk as ****. they basicly have one site for each game. Maybe different genre portals would make sense?an fps portal with all dat good and also new **** on screen?

what perhaps hurts the friend side most is that when a lot of people you know go inactive it kinda implodes, the chain is broken and you stop checking aswell.

theres some problems but the modding community aint dead thats what the nexus shows, maybe an endorsement system would spark activity?
anyway gl to da mods xoxoxoxoxo

btw: what are activity points?
x

edit: damn checkit

I have my own reasons for not being active here now.

But another reason tbh I just have gotten busy and moved on to other things.

I still check back here and there but mostly now all the people I befriended on ModDB I talk to on other things now. I guess I just "Grew out of it".

I wonder if bringing multiple communities together would help out... I don't mean communities on Moddb, I mean communities from other modding websites like Hiveworkshop.com or Gamebanana.com

It also doesn't help that developers are intentionally making their games harder and harder to mod. EA is the biggest offender of this, in particular making the C&C games incredibly complex and releasing really shabby, broken, prone to crashing, and hard to navigate SDKs.

Modding a game most of the time these days requires a pretty large knowledge of numerous coding languages. And most people are smart enough to realize that they should probably just make their own game if it's going to take that much effort. That's why we're seeing more and more indie games, especially things like Gamejolt.com and the extension of the Desura family with Indiedb.com and the WIP Mobile DB or whatever it's called for mobile games. (It might have been scrapped?)

As a new era of gaming will begin within the next 10 or so years, where there's tons and tons of new people coming in (Right now they're kinda sprinkling in, but in the near future I predict they'll just burst out from everywhere) that will be making simple but fun little games that people are going to want to see more of and thus they'll try to mod those games to add new levels or something. But that's just a theory, I guess... A GAME THEORY! THANKS FOR READING!
