Thanks for the link. That being said, the video doesn't auto-play... What browser are you using ? I just tested your link on both Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Does this happen on both browsers ? Or just one ?

I only have Firefox 24.8.0. Could it be the javascript variable governing playing back incorrect fires upon loading the website? It happens also while going to the profile itself. Then both the news video and the showcased video from the video gallery start automatically playing back.

Doubtful. Videos are not loaded with Javascript, as they rely on iFrame codes. Are you using Windows ? Or another OS ?
By the way, did you try to reinstall/update Firefox ?

It's Linux. Although it's iFrame there is JavaScript on the included page when I follow the included page url. So maybe in there something doesn't properly init?

Well, javascript shouldn't interfere with iFrames, as they are coded differently and because medias on ModDB are independent. I just tested the HTML structure of the article, and this is what I actually see:

As you can notice, the article is free of any javascript/HTML issue. Anyway, I will discuss with Scott, and see if there's a possibility that videos can auto-play on browsers. If so, we'll try to forbid both videos to auto-play. That's all I can say. Contact me via PM directly, so that users won't get notifications on things that are not related to this topic. We'll try to find a solution.

A podcast dedicated to mods, games and 3-D movies?
I could be a host. Okay... maybe not. :D
H-H-H = Hard work, hard labor, hardly anything else.
Ah-Ah-Ah = ... hard work. :D
Keep up the good work, my beloved admins - Moddb.com
I love this web-site.

--- --- --- --- --- ---

So, a "web-cam debate chat-room" isn't good enough? If that's not the ultimate combat pit, then I don't know what is. :D
We could talk about games, anime, self-promotion, narcissism, marketing overall and so on. ;)
Oh okay. Apparently, my ideas are lame. I just wanted to lighten up the mood and improve this web-site by a podcast and a web-cam debate circus.

See ya. I walk away in shame. :D

Take care, mod-db staff and other influential members. Great web-site.

I suggest a reduction of adverts or at least a better filter on them. Browser-crashing plugin failures are frequent and hard to pinpoint with the numerable ads.

Thus far, the issues we have noticed with ads :

  • On tablets and phones, sometimes ads are able to open the Store without clicking on them. For example, when you check you a game/mod page, your phone will open your Store (App Store, Play Store etc.). This is something we really need to correct, because ads shouldn't be able to do it.
  • A issue which has been solved: Sometimes ads were able to auto-play with videos and sounds.

I believe we've never had a such issue. Does this happen on both pages ?

Having to wait until news posts get approved is super annoying.

It could be improved by having a some sort of "trusted posters" list who don't have to wait until their posts are approved. Or maybe a simple filter that tags posts as needing approval if they look like spam.

Should have realized this forum existed before....
anyways,
A question,
Given the new "Author"," creator" tags on moddb pages do former members still have those tags? I noticed that a former member on my page has "Author" which he is the project originator, however I'd hope that if he posts in the future, the tag doesn't stay with him, since he's a former member.

I like the system tho.
As for ideas to imprive moddb & indie DB, I've been thinking of the following for a while now:
Moddb.com

ya, this is a great platform I can see it standing the test of time.
Thanks.

if his permissions are removed so he can no longer moderate the group, the "author" tag will be removed

So I just deployed a fix to the comments system, so discussion threads should no longer wrap and be displayed entirely on the one page

Dear Scott,

Here's my idea for comment notifications:

The comment notifications could just be on the same place you can see the watched game's updates. I don't see how it would be spammy, it wouldn't be too different from Facebook notifications. If you have a "clear all notifications button" it should be quite smooth. If you're the creator of a game, you would get notified of any comments on anything related to the game.If someone replies to a comment you've made, you also get notified. You can just alllow users to also disable those notifications. Thanks!

So basically every comment on all images, news etc related to the mod / game you are developing? I can certainly add it to the list

I second this indeed.

It's already in the list. ;)

Please add a proper search engine. The current one is terrible. You can only search by title. but what if you want to search by theme or genre? We have to bite our fists and search hundreds of pages for the type of games we are looking for? Please add a proper, a REAL search engine.

You mean like the genre and theme drop-down menus that are besides the release status drop-down, the indie/AAA drop-down and the player number drop-down over here?

This may be far fetched, but how about an option to enable a slider (like on the mainpage) on someone's page. For example;

And you may choose 3 to 5 slides from your images (maybe even video?)

This is a great idea. However I don't believe a full-width slider is good, as it seriously affects the user experience. Maybe the slider should be on the left with a width such as 600px ?

Yes, this would be a nicer idea. It would make for a better user experience when we're also taking tablet users in account, or people with smaller monitors.

Edit

upon revision of my other gif, something like this? (maybe with the option for both left, center as right positions?)
