Nice little tutorial, better than the basic room tutorials. Though perhaps you could be better prepared and also explain a few things instead of just saying "we'll do this" (eg; the hollowing part). Nevertheless, learnt a few things and can't complain too much as it's just a overview of basic mapping.

GIMP is easily the best alternative to Photoshop, been using it for few months now and despite a few draw backs it practically can do what Photoshop does albeit requiring a bit of "know-how".

Seriously very basic tutorial, too basic.
