Weredo u download the Map maker?
click on the texture tool, keep it open and drag your mouse over to the box. Then right click.
Try hosting a server instead. I had that problem too and it seems to work if you create server > select map from list, and then run it like that. good luck
For some reason when I go to right click and paste the grass in the beginning nothing happens.

When i load my SDK and go to open the hammer exitor i dont have any current games down at the bottom?? How do i add them? It tells me that "NO game configurations to run with."

Hey its me again well i figered out how to get it to work now i got my map started and im trying to see how it looks so far in the game. i save it then i run it just like you said!!!! well the css game starts up and then goes away same thing happend when i was in the gave and i change the map?

Whenever I try the Hammer editor or any of the other stuff, a window pops up saying: No game configurations to work with. What do I do?
but you can explain your problem in detail I might be able to help you just make sure you follow what I do in my video and you should get it right otherwise hit the interlopers.net forums or Duck above will help you out :)

BD Black Death, you will have to reset game configurations.
i didnt see your other reply, you did figure out how to get game config back...but the problems you might be experiencing are either a "bug". However did you compile your map also? and did you create it properly? you cannot have no open areas in your map, it will have to be closed off by a skybox or of some material (dont use nodraw textures, transparent, or glass to close off map).

yo the map editor comes with the source games, just open your steam window, go to the tools tab and download and install the Source SDK not SDK Base. Once you have done that, launch the Source SDK then launch Hammer Editor once the SDK loads. An icon says that you need to configure hammer, click continue anyway and i believe a weblink will assist you on configureing Hammer.
However! there is an easier way...
This is what I did: I launch Source SDK, reset game configurations, then close out of sdk, launch cs:s, close out of it, then relaunch sdk then it automatically configures for you.

Nice little tutorial, better than the basic room tutorials. Though perhaps you could be better prepared and also explain a few things instead of just saying "we'll do this" (eg; the hollowing part). Nevertheless, learnt a few things and can't complain too much as it's just a overview of basic mapping.
To those who can't see anything in their Hammer 3-D camera view, since a lot of people is having this problem, the answer is simple.
When you have hammer running and you opened a document, go to the top left where the tool bar is (File, Edit. Map, etc.) and go to View/Center 3-D vews on selection. What this does is bring you to the center of origin, the x,y,z axis of 0.

You need to go to map which is up by file. Scroll down to entity report then hit go to. This should fix the camera, which valve broke.
Wait i figured it out.. and for any problems any other people have.. You have to click the camera on the left hand side and click your box then you are free to roam around it
i got a question. when i open hammer and open a new file, why do i not get the 4 windows? it only opens 1 window! i have to open 3 new windows. any way you can help me fix this?
