Guys i'm fairly sure the mojang team is not opting to design merchandise rather than work on the game. If they are even majorly involved with designing the merchandise it would be a very small group from mojang, certainly not a major part of the team.

This looks extremely interesting!! TBH when I was reading your article I was half expecting/dreading scrolling down to the comments and seeing a punch of troll-like posts "dumb, minecraft waaaaay better" or "why you no get your own game idea?"
But I was happy to see that was not the case! The one question I have is: In the finished, or further developed, product will the terrain be randomly generated(if it isn't all ready), or would the player pick and modify(get total control over) pre-made levels?
-Keep up the great work, definitely tracking

ummm yes they can sue mojang... "the elder scrolls" is their title. You can't go and make a "brand new" soda and call it Pepsi. Although I think bethesda's lawyers are being dumb, they do have a legitimate case: "The moron in a hurry" essentially

ummm if you mean please don't tell me this is dead...i'm sorry to tell you that Operation Heilegon is dead. No one is more upset about then me... Operation Heilegon was my dream, a game I had been mentally forming in my mind for years. When I finally acquired the skills to make the game, it just wasn't possible for me and a couple of friends to create a game of such large scale with such a small budget.

However, we are attempting to create a new game. Fun, but much simpler then Operation Heilegon could ever be. This time, though, we will be developing a little bit differently. I wont even begin to publish anything related to the game until I know that the project is realistic. I can tell you this though, early gameplay testing is looking promising and we are shooting to have our first public demo by Christmas.

Sorry about the late reply...really really late reply, and i'm really sorry if I read your comment wrong and this reply is totally pointless.

As much as I would love to make my game "ultimately cross-platform" it just isn't a feasible goal for my team right now. My main goal is just to have the game come with pc and linux support right now since there are so many linux users on indiedb!

Dude I totally agree with you! I love the old school style of easy, medium, and hard tracks, and I think its awesome that you're bringing it back. As to your question about the building, I for one like the desert style you got going on, but some variety is always a plus. I'll definately have to check this one out. keep the updates coming!

It truly is a great way to densely populate areas, although I do it slightly different. In one of my forests in my game I have the front trees always completely drawn out, so that it look nice, and then when you get really close to the forest the other begin to get a higher Lod. This works quite well for me. As always, the engine is looking sweet, keep up the good work!

Ummm no I was providing an example. The way to win in gears involves more than simply pressing one button you need to use strategy, and good timing to win. Same goes for operation heilegon, timing, skill, and strategy involving the environment is the key to success. However down and dirty fighting is completely different. The main difference being in gears you have guns...

Thats a great question badgarok, no it definitely wont be top down. The easiest way i can explain it is like this: Take your every day run of the mill rpg. You have skill trees you have magic attacks, and you have your stats which upgrade. Now take a game like gears of war, you roll, dodge and use the environment to your advantage. Now imagine your playing gears except instead of shooting your breathing fire, launching lightning, throwing punches, biting, kicking, and just plain fighting. Ok now instead of being a human imagine your a 6 foot tall monster, or a 3 foot tall wolf. Congratulations we've just arrived at what operation heilegon combat is like. More on this coming next post!

It's definitely an interesting idea, for a strategy game. I think if its executed correctly this idea will be a great success. I'll definitely have to keep tabs on this game!
