Did you try our own Galaxy Forge Editor download to make the map? I'm not sure if it needs updates for 1.8
The AI doesn't necessarily play the best in the mod, but it's gotten a lot better. A lot of the abilities have been tweaked, maps are tweaked, the capital ships have been resigned. All worth trying

Yes, capital ships will not have all skill points used. That is expected.
It's in the download name - SOASE Rebellion 1.52+
Lower your graphical settings. Or your files are not in the correct mod path. Or your EnabledMods.txt is incorrect

Yes, as noted below - the Vong will be fixed in the upcoming patch
Shear size of the game. It's a large map. No way to optimize it because the Sins engine just isn't meant to handle it
Move the folders/files one folder up. You don't need a soge_r1088_reb folder
While there is no consolidated change log, you can view what has changed per revision on our testing forum
