Waking up part 1

Mod review

Wayyyyy too short to recommend but your mapping skills show promise, this would do for 1 map, not an entire custom story though.

The Investigation

Mod review

Unbelievably boring key finding simulator. Extremely repetitive, monotonous key finding with the same scares used over and over, long open empty rooms for days, just awful attempt at a custom story. I gave up in the cell blocks as I just thought how ridiculous this was getting. This is how you don't design an Amnesia custom story. I will say that the story was at least interesting but gameplay is FAR more important than the story.

Castle Dorian - [Full Version]

Mod review

Neat little custom story, my only gripe is how quiet it is all the time, some more ambience/music wouldn't've hurt, even if it makes it more creepy. Flat out just a neat, no BS custom story, a goodie. Relatively short and sweet for a small download.

La Caza

Mod review

Hey, you did the most making use of the game's vanilla assets, well done! A very imaginative and creative custom story, and whilst the environments aren't that populated or detailed, the custom story was still lots of fun and had a lot of thought and love put into it, very much so worth a try, I think you'll like it!

Feast of the Damned

Mod review

Absolutely crazy nonsensical custom story filled to the brim with jumpscares (literally walk 5 feet and get jumpscared lol) not to be taken seriously in the slightest, this is peak early meme culture right here. If you want a quick laugh play this one and get trolled.

Haunted Memories: Episode 2 Remake

Mod review

Extremely poorly made total conversion. First impressions are not good, outside ambience plays inside for some reason, seams in the geometry everywhere, I can see into the void and many holes in the mansion itself. Story totally lacks direction after you aquire your lantern, turns out you have to try and leave which is the last thing you'd think about when playing these and there's absolutely zero indication given on that's what you're supposed to do. After a journey through the barren empty rooms you'll encounter the monster which i admit is actually pretty scary since it's completely silent and tails you at your full speed.

The graveyard section is awful, objects clip through the terrain everywhere, the tall grass makes it impossible to know that there's actually a pedestal amongst it where you need to place the object on to progress.... And then when I aquire the library key and attempt to return to the mansion... my game crashes... Sigh..

On to Nightmarish Tasks. A cool idea, love the Penumbra monsters btw, you complete tasks in snippets of levels from custom storys. Only problem is you have to find a key in each one of the deciated trails, and if you miss one, tough **** cuz you have to do it all over again, completely unescessary and after doing all the trails I wasn't bothered to find the four keys I missed. Fun, but ultimately repetitive and some of the trails suck.

In Lucy's Eyes

Mod review

Amazing total conversion! Whilst it claims to not be similar to Amnesia, honestly the only key difference gameplay wise is the use of matches instead of a lantern which forces you to be more conservative with your usage. This total conversion features: three really cool custom monsters, detailed environments to explore, top-notch voice acting and amazing atmospheric immersion and is just an incredible experience.
Only a minor gripe with how the kidnapping is handled late game, author you shouldn't allow the player to leave the cells as having the way to progress in that area; but also allowing the player to leave when there's a locked door (that leads to nothing) is bad design, but that's my only issues, otherwise a phenomenal experience. Lost track how long my session was, must've been a good 2 hours though.

Bravo dev team, top quality total conversion, feels like official content!

Dental Nightmare

Way too short to recommend but a fun experience nonetheless if you're looking for a quick gag.

Order And Law!

Mod review

Batshit crazy custom story, tons of monsters to deal with, nonsensical environments, it has it all! I was enjoying myself though until unfortunately a respawn checkpoint put me outside of a locked bedroom I used my key on, so I couldn't progress and I didn't feel like playing the custom story up until that point as this one doesn't autosave, so that was it, unfortunate!

The Night I Went Insane

Mod review

This is a great custom story, that's sadly brought down by how buggy and sometimes unintuitive it can be. Let me go over the problems first. The first problem doesn't actually present itself for a while, the custom story starts off with a strong presentation. Don't expect top-notch voice acting as it's about what you'd expect from a fan-made mod without professional equipment, this doesn't take me away from the experience at all though. Anyways the custom story was going strong with your typical "mansion with a bunch of locked doors" scenario where you enter an area and find key items to progress (mostly keys :P.) You're trying to make sense of your current (insanity?) and find out what the hell is going on, the story eventually reveals itself slowly over time with good pacing! The map design I had no problems with, it was well done enough with very negligible gripes. Now... back onto the issues; the first problem presents itself in the graveyard level, the tree collision is unmodified from the original game which means it's very easy to get stuck/clip out of bounds. Thankfully the story autosaves so you can just reload if some bs happens, but still I find it odd how this wasn't addressed. The next problem is game breaking and makes me realise why the custom story got such a low rating, by far the most janky and unfinished... puzzle? The Church. After leaving the main area you get this sequence with a suitor where: what's supposed to happen is you run from him through a secret area, hide in a closet, dialogue plays and he will leave and break open the door you need to go through, as I found out via walkthrough.

What actually happens is: there's a chance he'll chase you into the room where at this point you have to die and try again as the dialogue probably indicates. If he doesn't follow you, you can play out the scene as intended, you go hide in a closet and the scene unfolds. Unfortunately the monster is given no AI or pathing, so he'll just bump into walls and objects a bunch and even try to break down the indestructible closets. So when the dialogue finishes and a key spawns, you grab it and now you'll have to do an exploit to progress, which involves putting yourself as close to the door as you can and letting the monster hit you, he will also break down the door. So yeah.... how this went unnoticed during "testing" is crazy, maybe it works as intended in the total conversion but in the custom story it certainly doesn't. So I proceeded on for a while anyways.

Another issue is the wine puzzle. The note you're given doesn't mention that you have to boil the water on the burner, ONLY the wine, so this was a pretty silly mistake, a bit of tinkering and you'll figure it out though. The final issue is when you first grab the hammer. You're supposed to smash down debris, but I tried it at first and it did nothing; turns out the hitbox is very specific and if you don't use the hammer on that point, nothing happens and I got stuck when I really didn't.
My final minor gripe is I find the orb piece placements a bit strange, but eh it's not terrible, it just sees like a few were thrown around as the author wasn't interested in making cool sequences for all of them.

Now with the negatives out of the way, I'll get onto the positives. I actually dig the voice acting. The main character, John has a pleasant voice, and whilst the other voice acting is passable at best, the guy with the fake british accent (crazy scientist) is also pretty good. The level design is fine, I had no problems with it, it's fairly well thought out overall with no super hard puzzles. (if only it were bug free)

My conclusion is this would've been a top-notch custom story if it had no bugs, but because it does, it leaves the story wounded and damaged beyond repair, if you go into this expecting bugs everything else about the custom story was great, I loved it otherwise, great story, premise etc. A damn shame.
Btw this custom story is crazy long, clocking in at over 2 and a half hours, so tuck yourself in if you plan to tackle it.
