Hello dannyhl2!
I'm really glad you uploaded my EAX.dll different libraries enhancing sound positioning from PCGamingWiki, even adding an additional one, since I noticed that someone deleted my entry there.
I think it's also crucial to add that modified eax.dll is not enough.
1. Please write about EAX and 3D sound restoration, or just attach dsoal in your Better Sound folder:
or link to Alchemy for All:
Forums.thedarkmod.com
People with EAX.dll only, won't hear full 3D. DirectSound wrapper is still necessary! Please write about it.
Can I ask you exactly what:
DS3D_CACHE_SIZE
line does?
2. Also great find with NBVoices. Unfortunately, it causes crash of the game while using DSOAL wrapper. With Alchemy it works fine. Please write in description/readme about it.
3. I encontered a bug when 16:10 resolutions (e.g. 1920x1200) have black bars.
Now even Reshade doesn't work properly anymore, even in 1920x1080. With old two backuped patch files it works normally. With Reshade it additionally squeezes the aspect ratio shortly after launch/alt+enter toggle and later in game it makes the game visuals distorted/doubled weird bug. Without Reshade the are just black bars on 16:10. I updated Reshade to the newest version (in 4.5.4 just insert preset name in installer, dont't click on (...) to chose default preset, it wil crash the application) and now there is no doubleddistorted/doubled weird visuals bug, but black bars remains.
Bug fix: I set up in system 1920x1080 with 1920x1200 in the game and it makes 16:10 to work as it should.
But if you minimize or go to window mode it will break again.
4. The game always works in DX9 after restart though I picked up DX10 version version of the mod.
I deleted config as in readme, and just set up resolution in the game. Now it's in DX10 as Afterburner reports. I restart the game, now it starts in DX9 all the time, and option of DX mode disapeared in options. In config everything is set to dx10. The game in DX10 looks slightly better though HDR cannot be enabled.
Bug fix: When using Reshade, make sure that only one injector is present in bin folder (dxgi.dll or d3d9.dll) not both, otherwise it will force dx9 after every game restart when config is not deleted.
5. Big performance drop in comparison to vanilla game.
Is this mod intended to work with default graphic settings or you should manually set everything to max?
What about writing something about it?
Because on max details, there is not even GPU, but very CPU intensive FPS drop. And even without one-frame latency fix it drops to 30-40 frames on old Quad Core CPUs with all details set to max, so warn people about it. GPU is not the problem (~RX 570).
~Bug fix: Don't set shadow to max. Consider also lowering geometry and terrain.
*. Generally, I'd put your DARE.ini into correct Data_Win32\SoundBinary instead of just SoundBinary (because how the people should know where that folder exactly is to replace the file?) the same goes to patch files.
*. Also feel free to write in the description some details about all of this sound positioning changes (DARE.ini, eax versions, DSOUND wrappers etc.) since in thia state now it gives vague impression of what has been changed. I know these details, but people don't.
*. Please write more about tweaks you've made to graphics engine beside things like textures you already described. It might be useful for people who don't know if it will be still better to use the mod with lower settings in comparison to vanilla game maxed out. Maybe vanilla graphics mod is posible?
*. I'd also write about posible unlock of Predecessor Tapes additional missions:
Pcgamingwiki.com
and about Intel missions pack.
*. Link about eliminating one frame latency fix. It gives much more smoothness on CPUs fast enough:
