INSTALLATION GUIDE:
To install the Payne Evolution mod with the included MP2 Widescreen Fix by ThirteenAG simply unpack all the content of this archive to your Max Payne 2 folder, all the extracted files and folders should go in the same folder of your MaxPayne2.exe
To install only the Payne Evolution mod unpack the files "Payne Evolution.mp2m" and "MPE_Levels.ras" and "MOD_Music.ras" to your Max Payne 2 folder so that they are in the same folder of your MaxPayne2.exe
To play the mod simply select it from the "Choose Customized Game" dropdown menu at the bottom of the launcher window.
NB: If the widescreen fix doesn't work try replacing the file "mp2_widescreen_fix.asi" in the folder "scripts" with the alternative file "mp2_widescreen_fix.asi" from the folder called Alternative (a backup of the original file is included in the folder called Original).
Be aware that for some unknown reason this fix doesn't work for everyone, there's a small chance that it will not work on your pc, sadly there's nothing I can do if none of the mentioned .asi scripts works, sorry.
IMPORTANT:
- It's mandatory to keep enabled the BulletTime Fix checkbox to have proper BulletTime behaviour.
- Savegames made with the original game or other mods are NOT supported, only savegames made with this mod will not cause bugs.
- Cheats are NOT supported too, they aren't disabled though, anyway using them can cause bugs so use them at your own risk.
- In this mod some button functions have been changed so your controls layout could be outdated, please check the Controls in the Options menu and remap the new actions to your preferred keys before starting to play the mod.
ENHANCED EDITION FEATURES LIST:
- Automatic ammo collection (weapon "teleporting" on first touch is expected and unsolvable)
- Replacing a weapon now drops the old one (all ammo still disappear, but now one single mag stays)
- New weapons sound system (whole different BT specific sounds for both player and enemies)
- Implemented Last Stand also in the two levels where it wasn't working (Upper East Side and Ending Manor)
- Replaced the Chow Yun Fat skin with John Wick skin (thanks AndersenTheMuss!)
- Implemented shootdodge slowmotion canceling (just press the bullettime button again, exactly like in MP3)
- More last stand surviving speech (with proper subtitles obviously)
- Improved Fal/ColtCommando muzzleflash (closer to the MP3 one)
- Replaced Max's jump sound with hopefully better sounds (still from MP3 like the old ones)
- Ported Marty's bar radio musics (Vinnie have it playing in his parking lot where you escort him)
- Now cough sounds plays along with the cough anim (when near a big fire like in Condemned Building B)
- Improved whirl reload effects (BulletTime reload feels more like in MP3 now)
- Fixed cinematics audio shots (Max's apartment intro have MP3 sniper sound, last level intro have hammer cocking sound, etc)
- New piano play sound (enemy now plays a real recorded custom piano version of MP theme played by a fan)
- Improved shootdodge background noise (falling/slowingdown sound effect like in MP3)
- New mpk first person overlay (I still prefer the old one, but a lot of people complained so...)
- Tweaked bullets speed and BulletTime values to improve gameplay (even cooler slomotions action now)
- Countless of fixes to audio, textures, models, subtitles and so on
- Hud hidden when unneeded (now screeen is completely clear in exploration part of levels)
- Replaced original MP2 musics with appropriate MP3 musics
- Added LOD and Framerate Smoothness sliders to video options menu
CHECK THE INCLUDED README FOR THE COMPLETE FEATURES LIST
VIDEO MEMORY ERROR FIX:
According to the Original Max Payne 2 Readme if you have a "video memory error" just write -developer and -disable3dpreloads in the Target section of the shortcut proprieties.
It must look exactly like this: "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Max Payne 2\MaxPayne2.exe" -developer -disable3dpreloads

The Payne Evolution Enhanced Edition is finally here guys! Every feature that was suggested has been considered and implemented whenever it was possible, also every single bug report was examined and fixed whenever the engine allowed it. This means that if you encounter a bug please just try to not let it ruin your fun, because I can't do anything more to fix it, this engine is simply too old and limited. Have fun and see you soon with my upcoming Quantum Break mod! :D
Hey pal
Is That possible that you add a beretta mod what will change the default revolver please :)
Hi The_Silver. Don't know if you remeber me. Im folowing you science Payne Effects first release (damn look at the time!). I will gladly try this Enhanced Edition of Payne Evolution. I know it will be good but it also has potential to be great! Stay tuned for a few words after i play it through!
Hey The_Silver, this is a much anticipated update and your hard work is much appreciated. One minor issue though, I seem to be having problems with bullet time despite the fix being enabled in the menu. Basically, the bullet time bar is completely depleted after a single shootdodge, even if I cancel it part-way through a shootdodge, the hour glass empties completely. Thanks
Wired. I cancel it repeatedily and it alwas stays at the point where i go to normal speed. It never emptied completely for me unless it acutally ran out. Did you install this mod correctly you have to copy all the files and folders to your MP2 directory (only scripts folder is optional and contains ws fix).
Black screen when i loaded mod..Can you fix it?
Under WidescreenFix generally poorly adapted.
It is a pity that no kungfu mod for this wonderful game )

Kung fu mod wasn't really finished and wouldn't find this somewhat realistic approach this mod has.
There IS a kungfu mod for this wonderful game, search for Kung Fu Evolution... ;)
Weapon pickups and ammo count is still broken.
You comment is pretty misleading, the truth is that it's not perfect and some odd behaviour could happen sometimes, but the rule is that it works fine most of the times and it's never game breaking anyway.
All this without taking into account the usefulness of the new Automatic Ammo Collection feature that while imperfect like every other piece of software on the earth is still extremely handy and puts and end to a lot of the previous minor annoyances reported.
Saying simply that it's 'still broken' not only doesn't represents the truth but it's also unnecessarily harsh overall.
All weapons I pick up immediately have 9000 ammo, or disappear, it's not misleading, it's broken. I haven't had it work as intended a single time throughout my many tries to replay even the first chapter.
Maybe it's the steam version, I'll try the disc version later, if I can be arsed, following your accusation..
Despite that, I am still a fan of your efforts.
No accusations, just facts. If it's broken it doesnt work for anyone, while I see only some people reporting bugs, and even less reporting of it being completely broken (only you actually...). So yes, your comment is misleading.
Now if FOR YOU it doesn't work I can only think of an external problem not related to the weapon system itself which very same code works as intended for the vast majority of the users.
The MP2 engine can fail to properly process code on some machines, maybe it's a timing problem due to the low specs of your pc, or maybe it just hates you... I've seen with my eyes the character not even jumping properly on the shootdodge on a youtube video, the jump code is there but apparently it's ignored for some obscure reason that without the source code of the engine it's simply impossible to debug (my mod is one of the most script-heavy you can find for MP2, so rare incompatibilities that can go unnoticed in the vanilla game and other mods could be highlighted in mine maybe).
So feel free to do some tests, with different game versions and even better with different computers, I hope that you will get it working fine just like it works for the other pleased players. :)

Hello The_Silver. I have Two Things To Say:
1-Your Mod IS ******* AWESOME!
2-Please Make A Torrent Download For all who got some issues in downloading the mod and for who got Slow Downloading Speed. (This is Just A suggestion. I Don't force You To make It). Please forgive me if My English Is Bad.
Thank you very much for the KIND WORDS! :D
I feel your pain, I had a VERY ****** internet connection for years, however setting up a torrent isn't exactly straightforward, I can't assure you that a torrent will certainly happen but I can assure you that I will try. ;)
This mod is awesome, but when I select one of the maps in dead man walking in arcade mode, gives a error message. The map in question is the New York Hotel..Below is the link to the image of the error.

Thank you very much! :D
I see, try adding the parameter -developer to the Target section of the shortcut proprieties. It must look like this for example: "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Max Payne 2\MaxPayne2.exe" -developer
Can you release a version retaining the original models and sounds. I felt like its quite weird seing a older version of max during the year 2002 :/
No, sorry, including MP3 models and sounds is a core part of this mod, besides I don't think that the model and textures used makes him that old.
Also I can't make separate versions for everyone that wants a change (models, textures, inventory, sounds, weapons, etc).

How did you made in-game dialogues to slow down with usage of bullet time? The mods lags my system too much but i really want to have the bullet-timed-dialogues thingy, but i just don't know how to do it :/
amazing mod , ty 4 this hard work

no torrent for this one?
Did anyone expirienced constant short image freezes in the game with mod? fps is ok, 60+
Thanks
I saw it said first person overlay, so I was wondering, how to actually use first person to begin with.
Hello. I wanted to ask how can I change revolver into another gun? If I have selected 1 slot (revolver) and pick up uzi or colt, then 2 slot weapon changes. If i have selected 2 slot (uzi or colt), then once again 2 slot weapon changes.

This is the error message I get after the splash screen, can't get to the main menu. Any help?
same here, please help
I have a problem with the graphic novels, they kind of flicker making them impossible to watch.
I believe it's not a problem with the mod, though, but with the widescreen fix: when I uninstall the fix, the problem disappears (but obviously everything looks stretched again). This happens even with the regular game with no mod. The widescreen fix runs otherwise perfectly in the game itself.
I don't mind the graphics novels in 4:3, but they can't be enjoyed like this. Anyone can help?
By the way, the mod is pretty cool and it's also cool there are still mods like this in 2017. I also appreciate that some of the best user-created levels are included. It's basically the ultimate enhancement for Max Payne 2.
I have to report a bug in the "Boiling" levels, though: you can hear Max's comments from Max Payne 3 along the original voice of the protagonist.
I understand the last release of the mod is final and I hope this happens just for me anyway.

I couldn't set up the mod with Reshade properly.
There is dark overall in the middle of the screen when I use newest 13AG files. On stock game, screen is fine.
Attached d3d9.dll here from older version of 13AG widescreen fails to load as dinput.dll.
No entry in library...
Editing d3d8 to 9 in ini doesn't help.
Once I ended up with maxpayne2.exe crash while messing around with all files to make it work. Nothing.
I ended up with attached widescreen and no reshade.
Hmmm.... It would be nice to adapt new widescreen version to this mod.
Old version not loads as dinput in order to pass through d3d9 of Reshade.
I overwritten ini, and also edited manually two options described for beeing exclusively set for this mod.
As I said, in the best scenario I endeded up with dark overall in the middle of the screen....
And, dear The Silver... I felt like I was playing Max Payne 4 for a few hours. I'm speechless.

The included widescreen fix causes the game not to launch on Windows 10. The only option is to update the widescreen fix to ThirteenAG's latest version, but that causes the vignette effect in the mod to be improperly corrected.

YEAH BOI!!! This mod is going to be the most downloaded MP2 mod of all times! Congratulations to The_Silver and his team of mod developers!
