Active game developer in some capacity since the age of 5 or 6 from the old CPC/BBC Micro computer days. I code, create 3d model assets, level design and lead some game projects. Notably the Ashura: Dark reign techdemo for Unreal Tournament 2004 and its newer incarnation in Unreal Engine 5. Need assistance on a project? Drop me a line.

Dekrayzis @ ADR sandbox alpha demo released

Thanks and Happy new year to you also!

There will be more to see over the coming year. More sandbox demos and with a lot of requests in 2021 for a rebuild of the old Techdemo; that too is soon to begin via live streaming on YouTube at some point later this month.

Your right I don't think there is either. Other than it could be down to an intellectual property issue, there is also the amount Steam charges in order to obtain a developer ID required to register a game which is about $100. I messaged Sega's PR in regards to all things Sonic asking what is Sega's stance on the matter of online distribution platforms such as Steam and my intention for using it for access to their online subsystem architecture for the coop game. I'm just waiting for a response. I'll post an update when I get word on the matter.

Steam is just another platform like here and SAGE when it runs each year where people can download fan made Sonic games. Sega allows fan games of their intellectual property as long as there is no monetary revenue generated from the fan game. There should be no issue with ADR being on Steam as it would not break Segas ruling regarding the usage of their intellectual property.

Here are some links to Segas thoughts on the matter:

Steam invites is an option to have someone join you during the game. If you don't use steam you can always hook up another controller to the computer and have someone who can then partner up with you in the game. Or you can just play solo and the ai will control the characters that would be controlled by a friend or family member.

The plan is to release ADR on here and on steam for free once its ready.

Yea, we restarted development back in January after a 5/6 year absence.

Project really needs 3d modelers more than anything at the moment. Music is last on the agenda during the current production phase.

I can understand your thoughts on it being abandonded due to my lack of posts over the past year. Checked out your work over on deviantart. I've sent you an email.

No. There is no real valid reason to make ADR on UE4

Hi, our main focus is currently on the visual side of the project. We will be seeking voice actors / Musicians once the overall game is completed.

Your still gonna need to learn to code. Not everything is possible with Blueprints in UE4. Just basic level functions and structures. This is a reason why I am using the UDK and not switched to UE4. Xaklse has developed the systematic functionality required. Unreal Engine 4 is only good if you want to take advantage of its new engine capabilities from a visual standpoint. Otherwise your trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak.

Sure!

Make sure your model is fully skinned and your weights are correct. Export the model in PSK format using ActorX if your using Max,Maya, or XSI and import your model as normal into the UDK.
Create an Animset in the UDK.

Adjust the bones on the model in your chosen 3d application to how you desire the end result to be for the morph target.
Export this model as a PSK also. In the animset go to File > Import morph target and set a morph target name.

Save your package. Go to your Animtree and add a morph node Weight connected to the morph slot on the animtree and add a morph node pose to the end of the morph node weight.

For actual blending in game, you'd have to do some unrealscripting. Check out the UTVehicle_scorpion class to get an understanding of how its functioned there. Hope the information helps.

2.5D gaming is the core of Sonic games. Always has. Even the demo released back in 2008 had a 2.5D section. ADR will NOT be fully based on 2.5D gameplay. It will be a mix of 2.5D and 3D esq gameplay areas with multiple branching paths.

I cannot please every fan, and from a level designers view, 3D is difficult to accomplish due to many factors.

Xaklse, isn't really with me working on the project as such, but does act as a technical advisor when it comes to coding.

I'm hoping to go back through the game once levels are done to add cut scenes.

Project is pretty much well known already. Everytime I have looked for certain types of artists to do some work, it never gets done. Only a select few has actually managed to contribute. Others have joined the team in the past and did nothing at all. Hence why I the project ends up in a perpetual state of limbo, and I have had to take on so many roles. At the current stage of the project, I prefer to get a certain amount done before showcasing it again publicly. Past videos didn't generate much of a response either. Just people who wanted to draw characters when levels and 3d skills were a main requirement.

Still alive. I've had a busy year, not had much chance to work on ADR. Recently got a PC upgrade, and been busy with work. I can assure everyone that ADR is still in production.

Strictly non-Archie. I never read those comics. May possibly add a few Archie characters, but its not on my to do list. Generations was somewhat helpful, but in terms of level design it still is difficult to make a layout that fits the overall theme of the zone. Hand..it works but not perfect.

Yes I did, I'm using Sky Sanctuary, Seaside hill, Shamar, Spagonia, Tropical Resort, Mazuri and Apotos for inspiration for this Zone. Also the Fleetway comics.

Not at the moment. I'm bouncing between coding the menu system and grinding. Both are currently giving me trouble. Things would be much faster if I had another modeler, programmer on the team. :)

Thanks. Yea its skinned and rigged. The cables are separate for now. I will be connecting those up once all the animations are done for the model, as I want the cables to move naturally on the model with the animation. So I will probably do a simulation pass and bake the animation instead of keyframing and adjusting it.

I will most likely use either vertex painting in UDK to blend the terrain and stone textures together. Or I will just instance the stone tiles (6-8 in a set) within UDK to cut down on memory usage.

I've been using an ATI Radeon X1800 XT for the past seven years. Its done quite well to last this long with what I've been doing. I'm probably gonna go for entry level card. Maybe a Geforce GT610. Money is tight at the moment, and its a plus so nobody can complain about requiring a high-end card to play the game.
