The original mod version of this game is good (I've just finished it), but unfortunately has several issues that affect playability, the frustration vs enjoyment dynamic, etc. The range of weapons available is good, though I didn't realise I'd missed the sniper rifle until I watched a walkthrough for the game on YouTube. Movement is fine (smooth and aesthetically satisfying) most of the time, but it's all too easy to suddenly get totally stuck in tight spaces (I lost count how many times I had to reload to my latest quick-save whenever that happened to me!). The music is nice and refreshing initially, but becomes repetitive and annoying after a while, with a lack of variety of sound tracks, and it also keeps looping whenever I reload a quick-save at a point in the game where the music has just played. Thus, the game is riddled with glitches, becomes frustrating to play very quickly (at least for me), and has very little replay value (it's unlikely I will ever play it again).

On top of the above-mentioned problems, the voice-acting is average at best (that of the main protagonist and that of Gordon Freeman), the final battle (Boss battle) doesn't make much sense and may have been better off being scrapped from the game, and some parts are tough to figure out in terms of what to do and / or where to go next as there's no clear-cut hints, logical flow / progression or sense of direction at those "crux points".

The enemies (except for the Boss) and visual graphics (except for the really annoying blinking lights early on and the constant switch between reality and an hallucination just before the start of the final chapter) are probably the best aspect of the game. The military has really good AI, give one a very tough time, and provide much satisfaction in terms of the sense of reward from dealing with them.

So, overall, I would give this game a rating of 4 out of 10. I do apologise if my criticisms of the original mod seem too harsh, and I do appreciate that a lot of time and effort was put into creating it.

Hi. The mod works great. My only gripe with it is that there doesn't seem to be any way to use the binoculars properly i.e. nothing happens when I click on the same key as the one I use to zoon in with the sniper rifle. This problem never occurred in the original version of H & D.

Is there anything you can do to fix this problem? It's frustrating to always have to use the sniper rifle to zoom in on enemies, and I like to be able to view the enemies from different angles with the men who I don't let use the sniper rifle due to their firing accuracy not being 100% - with their only other option being the binoculars (to view enemies more closely).

I sincerely apologise to those of you who have tried out my Wolf 3D Mod and experienced the problem of having too many enemies to face in Level 9 of Episode 1, along with the resultant problem of not having enough ammo to kill all of them. I don't know how I managed to overlook that - though this past year has been very tough for me, with loads of other things occupying my time and energy.

Anyway, I hope you all now really enjoy the game. In answer to other queries I have seen, I honestly don't know of any way of adding textures to the floors. The "hwe" map engine is rather old and limited where it cones to floor textures. So, try to appreciate the good aspects and features of the game - with its main emphasis being on action with lots of challenges against various Nazi enemies who have varying levels of ability.

Lastly, the game only freezes sometimes when I try to save my progress, and all I then do is restart the game and reload the save-game. That always works for me, so it should work just fine for anyone else.
