I really don't get the hate with this game, there isn't anything other than the shotgun that is notably bad.
Sure the shotgun stinks as a mid range weapon but even then your not really put into situations that require you to snipe someone from a mile away.
I can excuse that, but what I can't excuse is the shotgun feeling janky to fire. It feels like it either one-shots them or it does no damage. I would recommend to install a mod that improves the accuracy of the shotgun so you don't end up bitching about it like Civvie 11 does.
The horror aspects might be seen as a little campy/corny nowadays but I do recognize that it might just be a subjective taste as I do tend to play this game with a mod that replaces the sounds from an earlier build of Doom 3.
One thing I'll note is that I appreciate that they decided to tried to take the story as seriously as possible instead of the "He-Man" nonsense of Doom Eternal.(At least Doom 2016 had some dignity.)
As for the rest of the game; I think its an excellent and a really fun game even today even with these flaws.

This mod is pretty Nice and makes doom 3 a hell of a lot more fun. Though I do wish that you didn't mess with the zombie marine voice's. I found them way to cheesy compared to the more half life 2 esqe radio chatter.
