I mentioned this to my sister the other week. I find it really ironic that the same people that wanted the berlin wall destroyed and people reunited are now crying out for a wall to separate them from others.
Doesn't seem fair to compare two totally different situations. The Berlin Wall divided the German people unjustly. The wall proposed in the US is for tightening border security which is vital for a democratic society. But I digress.
Don't digress, it's a valid point. They do seem to be completely different situations, but since I am unable to look at our current situation in retrospect it is difficult to tell if they are as different as they seem. The people involved may be different but to me it seems both walls might be achieving the same purpose.
Well yeah. Walls keep things out. :P Of course it seems similar. Seriously though, Mexican immigrants need to follow the rules and procedures if they want into the US. Uncontrolled immigration, especially on this scale, even if it's to help people, can have dire unintended consequences. Both politically and economically. It's not because the majority of Americans are racist it's just a matter of principle and pragmatism. At least in my own opinion. And I'm sure less loud and obnoxious Americans would agree.
I doubt it will end up as a literal wall, even Trump has eased off the gas on that idea now that the elections are over. But increased patrols and the like will provide the same function.

I agree with that completely, I'm just not sure if a wall is the best approach. Especially given the funding a massive wall like that would require.
Yeah, sure.

The germans destroyed the Berlin-wall not the US...
