VHEL is a 2-D, story based, stealth focused, real-time tactics game set in a science fiction world known as Nor Prime. It follows the exploits of a young Bhacrio girl named Khana Faust, a courier in the southern region of Ivara, who undergoes strange metaphysical changes from a parasite known as VHEL, originally used as a means to power a destructive anomaly known as Skull over 13 years ago and also a parasitic commodity amongst mammoth-like hydrozoans known as Ragnic. As Khana, the player will explore the continent of Ivara in a rudimentary day to day simulation of her life as a courier while also engaging in confrontations with Ragnic -- usually within an evasive fashion -- in heart-stopping confrontations periodically, using alien tactics and strategies unique to this world alone.
A final version of the heroine (and I use that term lightly) of VHEL - Courier. Most of her design keeps in mind of engine limitations and gameplay necessities. Additionally, since her model is animated in Flash primarily, most parts of her body are large, abstract, and detachable.
Near-final design.
Nice design, really interesting style.
Her design is very abstract and uncharacteristic to how I normally draw since everything is 100% intentional. I'm still working out the random inconsistencies I find from time to time, but the general art direction looks mostly like this.
why does she have scaly patches on her skin?
tattoo, or disease?
No, those are scales, alright. lol
To be specific, her people -- that, being an alien race known as the "Bhacrio" -- develop large scales on their upper body. Khana isn't THAT old, so her scales are a bit shallow looking. Yeah, I know her appearance is very human looking, but that's intentional, to be sure. =P
So the scales will emerge more throughout the game?
Ummm...since your pointing that out, that would be pretty cool to experiment with. The only issue with having Khana's scales bloom throughout the game is the amount of work and extra animations needed to keep the presentation consistent. I'm already pushing my budget enough as is, so unfortunately, I realistically can't promise a feature like that. =/
...Though I definitely love that idea. XD
i dont really see any "scales" here...
Cool pic anyway :)
Most of Khana's design has changed over the course of months (years, even). In an older design (prior to the version you see now), she had scales that covered most of her arms and upper body. For the sake of continuity, appeal, and simplicity, such features (the scales) were annexed from her design, or subtly placed without convoluting her appearance. =P
