Shallow Space is a 3D Real Time Strategy game inspired by Nexus: The Jupiter incident and Homeworld. Shallow Space focuses on organised mass RTS space combat in a fully 3D environment. Ships in Shallow Space are nearly always grouped into Flotillas and Wings, and orders issued to these structures cascade to the subordinate members. Rather than stressing out clicking on the units or dragging selection boxes during the heat of battle, standing orders are issued in advance leaving you to zoom around, activating abilities and arranging support and reinforcements. Should the tide turn in battle traditional control is still available.

This is just great! I take it this will make multiplayer feel so much more interesting. Are those ? marks will yield falls readings sometimes? Will these marks move in real time or just denote the location of the latest sensor reading?

The marks move in real-time, it's more fun than blindly feeling your way around a 3D box. I didn't understand the question before that.

I was wondering that will all ? mark definitely show a detected energy signature of a man made ship or will sometimes end up being a falls energy signature reading, like a comet a solar flare or even some diversion generated by the enemy to lure defense forces out.

Oh a false signature you mean, yeah that's quite a good idea - but don't forget non-allied craft will show as ? also and on most maps there will be quite a few civvy Flotillas flying about.

Well the levels will be pizza box shaped, so you won't find nebulas or asteroids 'on top' of each other. I tried box shaped levels and it's just too much of a head ****.

Maybe I'll code an isometric map one day or maybe I'll focus on something more important...

I do like how it is looking, as long as you get the coordinates from it or just simply being able to give commands to your fleets to convert on that detected location, than it is fine with me.

This is already more inventive than most game of this genre.

Description

Coded in the sensor range inclusion/seclusion.

If an Enemy/Neutral flotilla is outside of Player/Allied deep scan range, a question mark is displayed to indicate something of interest (power signatures if you like, being read from afar.)

The cool thing is that if a Flotilla heads into a nebula or asteroid, or any stellar body rendering appropriate status effects, those power signatures are masked meaning both you and the enemy can hide.

Of course flying around the stellar bodies and passively scanning them (or using probes or satellites) may eventually reveal their contents and there we have it ladies and gentlemen; the excuse to utilise all three dimensions and fully exploit the AO.
