This file contains some notes about the Rise of Legends European patch.
Description
This download contains the patches needed for the 2006 European CD versions of Rise of Legends.
There is also a short text file explanation of what you are reading here.
The total size is about 320mb unzipped.
Instructions
After downloading the rar file, unzip it and follow these instructions.
1. Place the folder "patches" in the "Rise Of Legends" main folder.
2. Move the file "patch_manual.bat" to the "Rise of Legends" main folder.
3. Run the file "patch_manual.bat" by double clicking it.
4. Load up the game and check on the main menu to see what version number you have, if the number is "0.0704.1001.0000" or "0.0704.1001.0000.13.0" then you have successfully installed the patches.
You might have to run the .bat file in Administrator mode.
You also might have to disable any antivirus programs before running the .bat file.
In Windows Vista you might have to make sure the "Rise Of Legends" folder including subfolders are not "read only".
To check this right click the "Rise of Legends" folder and select "Properties".
If necessary remove the check mark at "read only" and tell it to turn off "read only" for all subsequent folders.

Other Notes
If you want to buy the game, there are a few versions:
Rise of Legends (2006) - 4xCD, printed Instruction Manual and Quick Reference civilization info card, will need to be manually patched (Usa version)
Rise of Legends (2010) - DVD re-release in dvd style case, comes with patches, nothing additional (Usa version)
Rise of Legends (2010) - DVD re-release in cd style case, comes with patches, nothing additional (Usa version)
These are the Usa English versions above only, there are many other language/country versions also (Italy, France, etc)

There is also a possibility for the game to be released on Gog.com and Steam.com as digital downloads in the future.
Note: To save trouble with manual patching, buying the 2010 DVD re-release of the game for $5-$10 may be a better option as it includes all the patches and has the game on one dvdrom disc. There are 2 versions of the Usa dvd re-release in English, maybe other countries have also produced a single dvd in other languages, or, if you understand English you can buy the Usa dvd re-release.

The bat File wont work here. I dont know why. But this isn't a problem, because i use the updater.exe and it works. Now i have a patched ROL. :-)
Hey, how did you do it? When I start the updater.exe it shortly pops up and disappears without any actions. Tried it with and without the patch files in the patches subfolder.

Sorry for necro'ing but if you're still having the same issue I had, I would recommend using the RoL v2.5 patch instead Gamepressure.com. It's the same updates, but it uses an exe to automatically install the patches.

Thx for the hint. It worked by turning off my anti virus shortly and by starting the batch file via cmd promt in admin mode @W8...
Hope this also helps users using Windows 8 @64bit.
I've tried running the bat file, updater.exe and patch.exe in and out of compatibility mode (XP SP3). I have also been launching these as administrator, but nothing works at all. The bat file works off patch.exe so I assume patch.exe is refusing to run.
Antivirus isn't blocking it (I temporarily disabled Avast + Windows Firewall before running) and I'm using Win 7 ultimate 64 bit. Does anyone have any idea why this update isn't working?
Nevermind, I've managed to patch myself up using the 2.5 patch found here: Gamepressure.com
