Rise of Legends is a real-time strategy game and the spiritual successor to Rise of Nations, based in a fantasy world, where technology and magic coexist.
This download is a mappack containing all the official skirmish maps made for Rise of Legends for both single and multi player
Hey all,
As brought up in this thread here some people are missing some of the official maps that were made for Rise of Legends because of various patch problems, so I have made a rar file of all the maps I have and maybe we can update it if it's missing any maps.
Description
This map pack contains a total of 68 maps for both single player and multi player online and LAN play:
62 are official maps
1 is a fix of an official map
4 are the demo maps
1 is a world map of aio
The total size is about 60MB zipped, 106 MB unzipped.
The number of players and name of each map are listed below in alphabetical order. I exported the list as a text file - if anyone wants more details such as the nation that the geography of a particular map "belongs to" (a Woodlands map being Vinci, a Desert map being Alin, Jungle being Cuotl, Snow maybe Kahan?) etc then let me know and I can add that in an update.
There is also a short text file explanation of what you are reading here.
Instructions
To use the maps just extract the zip file, select the maps and drag them or copy them into your "...\My Documents\My Games\Rise of Legends\custom maps" folder and you should be able to select them at the Quick Battle menu.
Your directory may be named or located differently, but the folder to look for is "custom maps".
Another location that stores maps is the "...\Rise of Legends\maps" folder which can be accessed from the scenario editor menu.
Other notes
In the same directory you may see a "map_images" folder which contains images for the maps, it's possible some of the maps maybe need this to be viewed in the game. However I don't know for certain because in my installation I only have 2 tga files in the "map images" folder. They are: "coliseum preview" and "ogre ruins". Coliseum is a map but Ogre Ruins I don't see anywhere.
If anybody can figure out what that means that would be interesting.
Known Errors
The 62 official maps are maps that came with the game or from official patches.
1 is a fix of an official map - there was a problem loading (2)Gossamer Ridge.map which others
had fixed and both the original and fixed files are included in this download. When you load
the fixed map you may have to click "Ignore" up to 9 times in order for the game to load properly.
Thanks to Devilloc and the Game Replays ROL forum for the fix.
The 4 demo maps are from the 2 Rise of Legends demo versions. The only demo map that seems to
work is Battle for the Core, which also seems to be identical to the official map version.
The other 3 demo maps do not display correct info and do not load a proper game, they seem to be
unplayable however other users might have a different result?
Lastly the "world map of aio" is an art graphic that shows an unlabeled world campaign
map that you can view once you load the map and select Resign, then select "Examine Map" to view
the map. You can also find and load this map in the scenario editor.

Thanks for posting this, Alin! It's a pity the demo maps don't work.
Hey thanks for the comment, about the demo maps:
(Demo)Battle For The Core.map - there is an official version
(Demo)Frozen Standoff.map - there is an official version
(Demo)Grassy Foothills.map - this loads up as Harsh Steppe which doesn't exist officially either, but a fan re-made this map and posted it here: Rol.heavengames.com --I haven't tried it yet though
(Demo)Summer's Heat.map - there is an official version
Not sure either if the official versions are exactly the same as the demo versions but they shouldn't be too different.
I was aware of the official versions, but would be fun if the demo ones worked so we could see the differences :) Tho you're right, they're probably not too different.
I'll try the grassy foothills map today and report back.
The grassy foothills map doesn't work. Too bad.
Hey check this out here: Worthplaying.com
Supposedly the first demo version had a map "Heavy Iron". I downloaded and installed both demos but could not find this map, maybe somebody else can try?
First time I'm hearing of it. I'll see if I can find something.
Devilloc provided a fixed version of the Gossamer Ridge map which I added to this download so it has been updated and reuploaded on 11/13/13.
