Red Alert: A Path Beyond brings the exciting storyline and epic clashes from the classic Westwood Studios game, Command & Conquer: Red Alert to realm of first person shooters, with a twist. We've remained loyal to the style and feel of the 1996 classic, while integrating content from its expansions Counterstrike and The Aftermath with a bit of updated history to add to the mix. Built off the W3D engine Westwood Studios built for classics such as Earth & Beyond and Command & Conquer: Renegade finished up in 2001, we help bring the fight to you as you play out your role as any one of a number of infantry classes participating in team-based combat that often involves land, sea, and air combined-arms clashes that just don't happen in any other game. Oh, and did we mention it's FREE?
Apologies for the video compression, but I wanted to get all of the new manual EVA announcements into one clip. Not all of the automatic ones have their replacements in-game yet but we're working on putting them there right now; for example, the "10 minutes remaining" audio is still RA1 stock (but the replacement already is recorded). All vehicles have announcement notifications as well, which you can hear when I purchase a V2; no more guessing what your team is up while you're out in the field and ask for more tanks or for air support.
At the very end I tapped M, to pop up the mission information screen. It's obviously hard to read here but it pretty much just sums up the mission's story to help with atmosphere and let you know what you're supposed to do.
The map I'm wandering around on is Seamist, which has been given a bit of an overhaul.
gah...the wait!
No building specific messages? No "defend OT" message? :(
During initial concepting, it was going to actually be a subject/verb/predicate system; [ctrl1] Attack [alt2] Enemy [ctrl-alt6] Ore Truck. It was too spammish and a little awkward.
The next incarnation of the whole vocalization system is like what we had now, but with a few changes. You still had too many area or setting specific commands, and not enough things your whole team might need or want to know.
Messages regarding buildings, or ore trucks under attack, are now all going to be automated and will repeat-trigger frequently enough to keep you updated of changing conditions.
Cool. But will the automated messages mention WHICH building is under attack? Or will it just say "building under attack" like it more-or-less does now? If the former (I hope) what happens when more than one structure is under attack?
Also, will base defenses get an automated message?
(BTW: "Attack enemy Ore Truck" is verb/adjective/subject. ;-) )
Nice to see this is coming along so well. Really adds a nice layer of polish.
Woa i see what you mean about seamist being given an overhaul! :P i like the island placements around the outside but...what happened to the walls??? :S
