Official support for Minecraft environment skins is coming tomorrow, according to Notch's Twitter.
After logging into Minecraft, you'll be able to select your preferred level skin without having to mess around as much as usual. Markus said in the IndieGames podcast last month that this would indeed be coming sometime in the future, so it's great to see. I must confess, I haven't got around to trying out any alternative skins yet, but this will definitely spur me on to do so.
With this in mind, can anyone suggest good skin packs for both myself and other readers to try out?

Now I hope something similar will be done for gameplay mods.

The reason, to my knowledge, that people do not mod MC, is that the buildchanges are too radical and often. The reason I did not go ahead with my mod project yet, is the unstable multiplayer 'n the constant builds that could potentially destroy all work done.
Mod creation would skyrocket if official mod support was added.
