《Drifting : Weight of Feathers》is a third-person shooter-action game. Each encounter in the game challenges the player to develop a situational awareness in 3D space, which includes constantly prioritizing your target whilst solving puzzles to unlock hidden entrances to the next stage.

History

The idea of 《Drifting : Weight of Feathers》 is to allow players to fully utilize 3-dimensional space - combat and puzzles happens not only on floors but on walls and ceilings as well. The game naturally inherited parkour elements - grappling hook, wall-running, wall-sliding, dashing to facilitate the protagonist's movement in 3D space. Since traversing is a crucial part of the game, a lot of effort was made to ensure the game is still fun to play even without players engaging in combat.

The core gameplay cycle of 《Drifting : Weight of Feathers》 requires players to throw a sphere onto a statue, shoot the sphere and unlock the entrance to the next level, rinse and repeat. The versatility of the cycle came from how the level spawns the sphere, the location of the statue, the obstacles between the sphere and the statue, thus, providing players multiple gameplay experiences with the same rhythm but different pitch and volume.

As a supplement to the fast and dynamic gameplay, a leaderboard system was built to track and rank the performance of players each time they run through a level, providing an additional layer of challenge.

In October 2020. the gameplay of 《Drifting : Weight of Feathers》 was recognized by editors of IGN Japan and was chosen among 157 indie games and highlighted (along with 3 other titles) in their Indie Game Week event. Following the interest of IGN Japan, 《Drifting : Weight of Feathers》 received positive feedbacks from social media and communities - a further testament of the game's potential for its dynamic and versatile gameplay.
