Why would you use Obsidian maps as a base? Why not make your own from scratch, as you'll get more satisfaction doing that than poaching randomly generated maps with zero architectural changes and a little bit of ACS scripting? (I can recognize the prefabs used!) At least you have the honesty to admit it was generated and not claim credit on the maps some others would for the "level bases". Oh, and distributing Andrew Hulshult's entire "Dusk" soundtrack ( Andrewhulshult.bandcamp.com ) in there? That's a BIG NO-NO when it comes to projects like this. You are asking for legal trouble, friend. -Armaetus

Hello, the whole concept of this is to push the limits of the map generators by taking the maps created and making a fun experience out of this. Screams From The Necropolis with Oblige, Maximum Gibbitude with ObAddon, and The Sentinel Expedition with Obsidian. This isn't about "honesty" when the intention literally was to use those generators.

As for the Hulshult ost, I am going to release a version with standard Doom 2 ost (and removed addon weapons) very soon.

I would recommend you get rid of the Hulshult Dusk OST ASAP before you get a cease & desist.

Hi, I am one of the developers on Obsidian (previously on ObAddon) - the truth is regardless of your express purpose of doing this, we are not really at all that pleased with someone generating a map pack and releasing it like this whole-sale - we don't mind if you use it as base and perform transformative action on it (let's say, altering enough of the map such that it doesn't resemble the original at all) but this looks more like an asset flip if you will. This is still our architectural assets along with the library of textures from different sources and many of which we've authored our own, as well as our code written to build all this from layout, to placement, to gameplay balance. A cursory observation of your project doesn't really show you've changed enough of the content to qualify as transformative.

The thing here also being generated maps are often looked down upon by the community - you already know that though and you've admitted to it yourself, but that doesn't entirely exonerate you from what we think is our content taken wholesale. I'm trying to avoid use of the word 'theft' here just to not get any party upset - at least not as upset as we are on the team.

I'm not going to tell you what to do with the map pack but we just want you to know what we think...

This is a pretty pompous response to free advertising. Honestly, get over yourselves. It's free content, generated by a free mod, released for free, with full transparency on the whole thing. This man might as well have put up a billboard for you guys and you come in here and try to play lawyer over it. Grow tf up lol.

Move on. Its not DigitalPhantom first release of random generated maps. Nobody cared about it before either.

I said it already back in 2020 on his first release and I say it again: If anything, this is a good promotion for obaddon/obsidian, as there are still people that don't know about this awesome piece of software. It's not like he claims that he made the maps.

Theres not much in the way of any drama here. The Uploader fully listed this as an Obsidian generation which means its a product of procedural doom map generation. The Uploader then states he tweaked the maps a bit, and I don't blame him/her a bit because Obsidian can be just as bad or even worse than old Oblige due to its complexity.

This is literally no different than showing the product of a Minecraft Seed number except that the Maps can be exported. Even if the settings are all the same, Obsidian will still generate something different especially if you didn't jot down the Seed number! So this quite a unique experience, and definitely not theft because he never claimed any ownership.

Obsidian is still in Beta Phase and this is more like an overt advertising for what the robotic map maker can do. The feelings of a community have no bearing on stuff uploaded because this is not a majority rules scenario.

If an actual Obsidian developer posts an actual claim against this, then I will be shocked, and not just some dude claiming to be a developer for it.
