Deus Ex Community Update 2.4.2 - 7Zip SFX to Winzip SFX Change
Was dissatisfied with how slow launching the installer could be, so re-looked into using the same Winzip SFX version the original DX devs used (2.1). Did it before just 'cause I thought it would be cherry, but it turns out there are actually a lot of benefits!
- No SmartScreen warning
- Prompt to extract wherever you want, good for getting around installer issues or just using the demo (Could before and still can just do this manually, buuut this makes it yet more obvious)
- Using .zip means you don't need to have .7zip installed, any windows user can just rename and extract
- Faster to extract (44 vs 64 seconds)
- Faster to build (like 30 seconds vs 120)
- Faster to launch (when you adjust the filename to be shorter, 3 seconds vs 10, I still have no idea why but a shorter filename with the WZ SFX launches faster, with 7zip it's slow no matter what)
Cons:
- Slightly larger file size
- Can't get custom icons to work properly on it for some reason
- Since it's a paid for program, can't ship it publicly. Well, not the paid for version your allowed to distribute with at least. Created an option to use 7zip as a fallback for the installer creator, and also just a plain archive as well. (Yes, I did actually pay for Winzip)
Aside from the SFX change, this release is the same as the last!
