You'll battle cultists, gargoyles, zombies, hellhounds, and an unholy host of other terrors in your quest to stop Tchernobog. You must not only defeat the Cabal--you must scour its dread name from human memory. If that means eradicating everyone and everything the Cabal has ever tainted, so be it. Of course, you'll first have to make your way through fortresses, castles, mines, mansions, and estates guarded and kept by Tchernobog's malevolent servants. Fortunately, it is wits that make the hero, and although you're in serious danger of losing yours, you've got enough left to improvise some pretty effective tools of destruction. Aerosol hairspray can be frightening enough on its own, but apply it to a lighter flame and you've got an instant flamethrower (kids, don't try this at home!). Likewise, a flare gun can brighten your prospects considerably against even the grimmest odds, which is to say nothing for shotguns, Tommy guns, and dynamite. Who knows,...

Description

For use with NBlood only! Vanilla limits are exceeded and modern features are used. This is the first 3 maps of a what will become a short episode. It takes place a few decades after the original game, in and around a remote ghost town far out in the woods. Strange things have been reported from the area and Caleb goes to investigate... The story is told from messages, make sure you read any square or rectangular shaped books you find (not the voxel books). While it certainly has action in places, it’s more about atmosphere. Big thanks to BloodyTom for converting the intro to an smk file for me! It's meant to be played alone at night with headphones! I'll release the other maps as they get ready. Also, there are a LOT of trees in the first maps. If you use a voxel mod that include trees I would suggest turning it off for this.

Hey, i run your map in Blood GDX and didn't notice any problems. Both visuals and atmosphere are great. Unfortunately, Blood doesnt seem to have a strong modding community (like Quake), but im sure there are many people who'd be happy with the new episode(s). Please, do not give it up :) Good luck.

Thank you! Atmosphere and a (somewhat) believable sense of place are the things I try to achieve. Here I wanted to create a feeling of isolation, that you really are way out in the middle of nowhere. There are some things I should fix, and sound design isn’t complete, and I probably want to use messages somehow for story and clues. The next map will be set inside the town. I have a 2 year old daughter though, so not that much time for map making.

Do you find the map too dark, btw? When I look at the screenshot I posted here on my phone I can barely see anything. It’s intentonally dark, but… I made it using an old computer with a very old monitor, and maybe it’s brighter because it’s certainly not THAT dark. I hope it isn’t like that for other people who play it.

Well, there's a "dark woods in the night" setting, I think this is the reason i didnt note that the map was too dark. Besides, it becomes much brigther after the tunnel and the rest of the map looks absolutely fine, so I dont really think this is something that needs to be fixed in this certain map.
Just take your time :) Lf to updates.

Yeah, the reason the first area is darker is because originally I had a thunderstorm going on, similar to e4m1. But even before finishing the first area I realised the engine didn’t seem to like too many flickering sectors at once and I had to give that up. I tried using multiple triggers but that didn’t help. I made the rest of the map slightly brighter instead, but somehow I really liked the darkness in the beginning and left it like that even though it’s a bit inconsistent.

Hi! I made an update to the map, also including an intro movie. Make sure to use the ini file for the intro and messages. Edit: I finally got it updated here.

There are a few good modern mods for Blood. Death Wish is extremely popular. Eviction has outstanding design. French Meat 2, Trauma Therapy, The Way of Ira, 500 millileters of /vr/, Fleshed Out - all good, I played them couple of years ago. Fate of the Damned will be released any day - the mod which was in development for eternity... There is a small, but devoted modding community. ALso, Blood was popular again for the short time when Civvie released his videos about it.

Yeah, I’ve played a few of them like Death Wish and they are great! I haven’t seen much from the last couple of years though, but then again I haven’t really had much time to look.

mao3161Thanks, glad you like it! I’m working on the last map now, but I don’t have much free time. The episode will hopefully be complete relatively soon though. I also have to do some polish to the earlier maps and an outro movie.
