After Reset™ RPG - a hard sci-fi role-playing open world game with old school top view, which action takes place in the future on Earth dying slowly after nuclear cataclysm that buried nearly all life on the planet.
While our programmer toils on apparel and inventory I'm in design, modeling and writing lore for various items you'll be randomly able to find at Gyes in containers. Here are several in-game books (items modeled with description prepared) I mentioned during our Kickstarter campaign as "the books of my inspiration".
Book "Rifters"
This book is made from some kind of plastic or composite polymer fabric. Despite it is, definitely, not a paper, you really like the feel of it. The title of the book declares "Rifters Trilogy, by Peter Watts". Printed markings on the cover indicate "Laurence King" as the publishing company. As well as the year of printing - 129AR; and the place of manufacturing - Helios, Underearth.
The book synopsis says:
"Civilization rests on the backs of its outcasts.
So when civilization needs someone to run generating stations three kilometers below the surface of the Pacific, it seeks out a special sort of person for its Rifters program. It recruits those whose histories have preadapted them to dangerous environments, people so used to broken bodies and chronic stress that life on the edge of an undersea volcano would actually be a step up. Nobody worries too much about job satisfaction; if you haven't spent a lifetime learning the futility of fighting back, you wouldn't be a rifter in the first place. It's a small price to keep the lights going, back on shore.
But there are things among the cliffs and trenches of the Juan de Fuca Ridge that no one expected to find, and enough pressure can forge the most obedient career-victim into something made of iron.
