Im sorry if this topic is out of place, but does anyone know any good resources for learning PHP? Do you promote PHP? If not, what do you use?

I've been back into webdesign, and already know HTML/CSS. I started to learn Javascript a long ways back, and it seems now everyone's moving to PHP.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

PHP ROCKS!!!!! um books about php, like php and mysql web development, i cant think of the author, but it really consentrates on php with ecommerce and it's kindof good, kindof because i own it and still don't know squat about php because i havn't gotten past chapter 5. but that doesn't mean the book is bad.

I would definitely recommend PHP 5 for Dummies. If you already know a programming language, you'll breeze through it.

I have Sams Teach Yourself PHP In 24 Hours. Very good book, I highly recommend it.

I prefer ASP over PHP. Mainly becuase I believe it to be faster to actually write down, and also becuase it is Microsofts own language - wich comes with lots of benefits for Windows users. Wich brings me to trickier part of ASP - if you're looking for free places to put your ASP pages on, your mostly looking nowhere, since the server machine has to be running Windows. Most cheap webhotels prefer Linux since it's free.

PHP is more widely used than ASP.
Books are definitely the best source, and theres plenty of them around. Most of them are a combination of PHP and MySQL but theres nothing wrong with that, as its what a majority of PHP scripts do. As for what book I can't really recommend one because I've never read any, but SAMS are generally pretty damn good
