The King and The Beggar

*** New feature ***

New feature allows player to choose from wide variety of campaign start options, all the way from the major faction leader down to the barefooted and penniless beggar. That is coupled with new custom character creation process which allows players to assign all starting skill points exactly as they like (to compensate for that total number of weapon proficiency points is lowered a bit).

Available start options include:

  • Major Calradian Faction Ruler
  • Independent Ruler
  • Higher Vassal (Count - castle owner)
  • Lower Vassal (fiefless)
  • Freelancer (free noble)
  • Merchant
  • Hunter
  • Peasant Rebellion Leader
  • Beggar
  • Bandit Leader

Major Calradian Faction Ruler

The king is dead, long live the king! Literally, faction leader dies and on his deathbed leaves everything in player's hands. Did you ever ask yourself how would it be to lead Swadia to be King Harlaus himself? Or any other leader? Well, now you can. You get all their lands and vassals. You also get Lezalit to help you out as a loyal minister. Use him to appoint chamberlain, constable, and chancellor. You'll have a great court at the beginning of the game and believe me you will need it. Lower lords have been stripped off their estates so you can choose who to award and improve the relation with right of the bat by giving them lands. BannerPage has huge number of kingdom management tools that should considerably help you out in this role, make sure to check Reports on the Campaign map and dialogue menus with court and hidden base team members.

Independent Ruler

If you are brave enough, you can choose to start off on your own. You can choose whose territory will you occupy. Leader of the territory you've chosen will not be very fond of you. Your starting kingdom will consist of one randomly picked town and it's belonging villages. After you've chosen your kingdom's name and banner, you'll receive a special stack of Custom Troops. Every single military unit available is there, so you can redesign them and complete your kingdom's custom unique troop tree even before you recruit first volunteer. Alternatively you can anytime choose any other known culture through dialogue options with the chancellor. Lezalit is at your disposal from the start and conducts the role of the minister. Use him to appoint chamberlain, constable, and chancellor. Original town's owner of the town you started your kingdom with will be your first loyal vassal and probably, for the long, long, time the best one too. Make sure to keep him happy. He is currently fiefless, give him one village asap or two if and when he becomes restless. You' kick off with some "right to rule" but you if you want to survive you need to improve in that area quickly, get married, send emissaries.... all standard jazz. BannerPage has huge number of kingdom management tools that should considerably help you out in this role. Reports on the Campaign map and dialogue menus with court and hidden base team members.

Higher Title Holder (Noble Vassal - Castle owner)

As title says, you won't start of the bottom, but as a Count or equivalent or in the other words as a random castle owner. At the start of the game, after you've chosen your liege and faction, you'll receive a well defended random castle and a family banner. Nice start, probably one of the easiest here, the best if you want to focus most of your time on intrigue, court life, social climbing up the ladder etc. You will have to follow Marshal in faction military campaigns and kiss your liege's a.. but that's about it - party time!

Lower Title Holder (Noble Vassal - fiefless)

You won't stay fiefless for long. Use that time to build small army so once you finally get your village, you are also able to defend it. It can be perceived as a challenging start but that mainly depends on your goals. The only thing that you'll get on the beginning of your journey is your title, banner and heraldic armor as a gift from your liege.

Freelancer (Noble - free)

You start of with some cash, mount and your family banner. Nobody knows of you, but your family name will open few doors for you. It makes a difference being a noble vs not. Probably the best start for those who want to roam and explore the most and enjoy freedom at the same time.

Merchant (Commoner)

The easiest non noble start, taking the gold amount into account that you've inherited and starting with. You'll have more gold than freelancer and lower vassal and you'll start with Merchant's Ledger in your inventory. The best start option for those mainly focused on medieval trade and/or business affairs.

Hunter (Commoner)

It is not easy to collect all the tools you need to be an effective hunter. Range weapon, finishing off weapon, fast mount, pack animal etc. This start option was created with two great BannerPage's features in mind: Hunting & Hideouts. Those two combined create a great immersive medieval hunting experience.

Peasant Rebellion Leader (Commoner)

You start off with some food and large gang of peasants and specific set of relations, disliked by all faction rulers. Peasant Rebellion Leader has unique ability to recruit traveling peasants free of charge. PRL can also get free food and free farmers and peasant women in villages. None of the faction rulers likes PRL.

Beggar (Commoner)

Greatest challenge of them all, you start of with literally nothing. New features like begging in towns and working hard farmer work in villages will help you survive and potentially get on your feet. Only for those wanting a toughest challenge.

Bandit leader (Commoner)

This start option was created with great BannerPage "Underground & Undercover Ops" feature in mind to get the player, you, utilizing all what has been offered with this new feature as soon as possible. You start off with a considerable cash amount on hand, but you have to use it wisely because your "Honor" is in deep minus. Low honor enables you to do many things like village racketeering, collecting protection money and bandit recruiting, but at the same time sets limits and boundaries to many things otherwise normally available. So you have to thinker how you'll invest your starting gold and not just throw it away. Building a Hidden Base and hiring gang officers or at least building a Hideout is strongly advised. You also get a small bandit gang and Necromicon (looting book) to start with.

Happy playing!

This mod is awesome!
I've been trying the Bandit Leader and the PRL and both are super fun, it has completely changed my way of playing M&B.
