S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Wormwood - Stashes

Hello Stalkers!

It's been a while since the last update - you can get a little more info from our latest Status Report, but things are slow right now due to a lack of available manpower. If you are, or know, a Lua scripter or C++ programmer with some free time to dedicate to the mod, please get in touch!

In better news, I have managed to get our new stash system implemented nearly completely, with only some small issues to work out before it's 100%. In the video demonstration below, you can see it in action!

Heavily inspired by Shadow of Chernobyl, stash locations can now be found on the bodies of Stalkers, and the location (as well as a unique name and description) will be displayed on your map until its contents have been looted.

Each stash's location is brand new to Wormwood (meaning apart from this one, you'll have to find all the others!), their contents are unique (usually valuable), and tied to the story of the stash itself.

Each stash requires a combination of faction, rank, level and random chance to be found. For instance, you may only be able to find the location of a particular stash by looting a master Duty Stalker in Zaton.

Alternatively, explorers can find stashes without first finding their location on Stalker bodies - all stashes contain items from game start, rather than being populated when the location is found.

We currently have 132 brand new stashes implemented, with Pripyat's stashes yet to be done! I am expecting there to be at least 200 all-new stashes to find in the mod. Not bad, right?

Hope this has been a decent update and makes up for the gap between this and the last one!

Ignore the PC specs overlay, Shadowplay neglected to tell me it was going to do that until I watched it after recording...

How do you get the specs overlay to show up in Shadowplay? Oh and we have the same CPU lol

Haha it seems to be a feature of the Geforce Experience beta 'Share' function, one of the overlays.
2500k family represent! ;)

really nice! i hated it back then in vanilla when you needed the location first for items to spawn ... this makes exploring more fun and rewarding

You're thinking of Shadow of Chernobyl, Call of Pripyat had all the stashes in place from the start and you had to search for them, Some where given as rewards but the stashes themselves were always there. SOC had empty stashes until locations were given but it had boxes scattered around with supplies so there was always a reason to go for a mooch.

You're correct Nasha :) One difference though is that vanilla CoP had almost zero actual 'stashes' - they were all items lying in the world rather than containers with interesting names/descriptions/stories like we have :)

Have you guys given any of the vanilla stashes fancy backstories, in addition to all these new ones?

There are no 'vanilla stashes' - every stash is a brand new one :)

That really killed some of the atmosphere of SoC and CS for me. So annoying to find a stash, but have it be conveniently empty because Vadim Flea or whomever hasn't popped his clogs yet.

Will this mod interfere with something like Arsenal overhaul? Or Absolute Nature?

Wormwood already contains a custom version of Absolute Nature and Absolute Structures, as well as our own improvements in this area.

It will not be easily compatible with AO.

Good to see that you've added a little story to the stashes beyond "in the log near the car".

Hey Beac, please tell me you will be using the full world geometry for stashes. In vanilla there are SO many cool/tight locations that require parkour or worming your way under things to go to, and almost none of them are actually used for stashes! Then you find gear just sitting out in the open in some places!

I've tried to spread them out over each level, in hidden places that make sense for people to hide things :D
