Questions involving the current music selection in UBHL.

Posted by on

Are you guys satisfied with the current music selection? Do you think it can be improved? Do you guys prefer lyrical music or instrumental music (the later being the kind of music currently in the mod)? Does music from other games annoy you? Do you dislike electronic music? Do you hate metal music? Post comments below so I can get an idea of how could I personally improve the current song selection for UBHL Mark 2.

I like metal and electronic as long as it's instrumental, music from other games is fine by me as long as it's a remix of some sort. The current soundtrack is damm good by my standards, if you go in with the same kind of stuff for mark 2, and maybe change some songs (based on personal preference) then it'd be all awesome stuff in my book :)

I'll change SOME of the songs then. I thought about replacing it all and I even tried putting in some Ash, Godsmack and Metallica and it just doesn't work. Feels more like Doom than Half-Life. If this were a Doom mod then no problem, but it happens that this is just NOT Doom. This is Half-Life. Lyrical music works better with Brutal Doom, which is a game that has almost no dialogue (unless you happen to press the F button, or if you taunt in which Doomguy does one of his typical Serious Sam impression). Half-Life happens to be a game that has LOTS of exploration and it isn't hardcore enough to actually demand heavy metal music with lots of screaming and head banging. If the maps had the exploration bits cut off, the enemy count tripled, and the difficulty rebalanced, then yeah. But unfortunately, nobody wants that and it still wouldn't feel like Half-Life. Instead, the whole game would feel like Brutal Doom but with 3D graphics and it would just feel awful compared to what's out right now. I'll definitely remove both the Marathon Arrival song (that's actually impossible to actually load because the Dreamcast Half-Life C1A1 map does not load the song) and the Chaos Theory Hokkaido remix (that's just really crappy and I'm not sure if I drank too much vodka while choosing my song selection but whatever) which played in the two assassin encounters. Are there any song(s) you believe they're bad/not fitting to the levels? I'm actually asking this because I'm beginning to feel that I overlook some of the song playlist I do so I really need an idea on where to go.

Otherwise, I'm not doing much progress with the mod. I'm actually waiting for Zoonyarts to finish BHL Beta 2 so that I can actually start working on Mark². The main changes with Mark² that I'm planning is a slightly changed soundtrack, all the features of BHL Beta 2 and most importantly I'll search for completely new voice mods for the Nihilanth, Barney, Scientist, Hologram and, optionally, the Hgrunts (IF there are any that are actually worth it). Otherwise, all the sounds present in UBHL Mark 1 and all effects will be the same, unless BHL Beta 2 adds any.

gamestartup, half-life11, prospero01, the quake2 theme that plays at the start of c4a1 / before the nihilanth battle, and the one that plays when the black ops assassin bitches show up... all of these could be changed to something else, but that's just me of course :)

Funny, because last week I was starting to think about removing these songs (except for Prospero01). I'll see if I can find better stuff. If anyone has any music recommendations, post here. Music must be a remix from a game and must be fan-made.

If you would like some "oldschool" Drum and Bass soundtracks, Try Cybernetika:
Ghost of Midas, Starchild and others. I kinda like the soundtracks you have there, but i still haven't finished it.

hum, what do we have here ? - I see some new tracks at the end of the sondtrack playlist, the one for black mesa is cool, and the ninja gaiden one was pure joy to my ears, the others are cool too, if this make it into the soundtrack for the next release i don't care what songs they'll replace but they're cool as **** :) - there's one with lyrics in there too, that could work for gamestartup but nowhere else I feel, but, again, that's just me :)

The songs you saw are the ones that will be on the next version. And the "music with lyrics" (Stan Bush - The Touch 2007) is a song that replaces Half-Life07. Since the song usually doesn't work, if you type the "shift Half-Life07" you can get a kick-*** moment when you really feel bad about playing on hard mode. It's also a reference to both the Transformers 1986 movie and Saints Row 4.

ah, I see, cool ****, include my controls fix from the main download, to get the shift half-life07 thing going, or make it yourself if you haven't done so already - can't wait for all the iron sights and **** in the next version :)

I'll add the control fix and some other stuff. If I'm not stubborn I may even add the new crosshairs that you made.

cool, about the crosshairs though, again, they're not mine, I just made it so the M249 has reuses one of the existing sprites, because those were meant for regular HL - Here's the link to the originals, if you wanna give credit or somethin' - Hl.gamebanana.com

The controls fix was mine, but that's something anyone can do, even for the crosshairs, you'd just copy the "crosshair" lines from another "weapon_*.txt" file into the one for the M249 to get, say, the shotgun crosshairs to show up on the M249, which is what i did :)

Here's an alternate version for the ninja gaiden theme, metal and all, I think this one's better, but as always, that's just me -> Youtube.com

Never saw that remix before. I'll take your suggestion.
