A problem with adding units is that adding too many units may exceed the GUI. For space units this is commonly solved by adding light, frigate and Capital shipyards as well making some units build-able on certain planets. but shipyards cost credits that why I don't like them, and also if you don't have any modellers or riggers on the team you will have a problem unless you can convince people from other mods to lend you stuff.

I think you'll be quite lucky with a lot of the models you need; Warb_Null has already made and released a fair chunk of what you are looking for.
I based the unit list off of that.
In regards to the 'Storm Commando', you can use my 'Imperial Commando' if you'd like: I know that 'Packy21' has asked me if he can use it, not sure if that was personal use or for this mod.
