Solarian Alliance
(Entry last accessed: 18th October 2156)
The Solarian Alliance is the first interstellar government in human history. It was established, amid civil unrest, economic downturn, and a long string of ideological debates, after the War of the Solarian Factions of 2151 by the Treaty of New Marseille for the purpose of settling differences between the faltering nations of Earth and the other smaller Solarian corporations that were engaged in warfare.
The Solarian Alliance inherits the primary purpose of the United Nations and the Unified Earth Government: to help maintain peace and settle differences between its conflicting members through peaceful measures. As of 2156, the Solarian Alliance has successfully avoided direct conflict between its member states. However, numerous constitutional amendments had to be put forward as a plague ran loose on the surface of one of the two terraformed planets of the Alpha Centauri System: Yartis. Though the planet Yartis and its sister planet Bardyn are not technically under the aegis of the Solarian Alliance, it was not long before the infestation became scientifically termed as a pandemic, that is, a disease that affects the entire population of the planet. Many sociologists, political experts, and historians urge the Solarian Alliance to take action in Alpha Centauri and nullify these recently ratified amendments so that a humanity-spanning pandemic could be thwarted. They argue, backed by the extreme right, that the Solarian Alliance must give up some of its principles to combat the Yartis Pandemic.
Like most modern governments, the Solarian Alliance is composed of three branches (the legislative, the executive, and the judiciary), but, based on a unanimous consensus by the founders, the head of the government has a stricter control over these three branches, at the expense of a shorter term of office (3 years) than it used to be dictated by the Unified Earth Government Constitution of 2054, which itself was based on the United States Constitution of 1783. The chief of state is called the Solarian Chancellor. At present, the Solarian Chancellor is Patrick Z. Esquivel, 52.
The references to Alpha Centauri attracted my attention. There won't be any subspace nodes in DoS, at least not as we know them?
There'll be subspace nodes, just as we know them from FS. However, my universe is not restricted to one node connecting one system with the adjacent one. So for example, there are two tunnels between Sol and Alpha Centauri.
What's the difference between said jump nodes? Where are they?
They can be found at two different locations in the Sol System and lead to different parts of Alpha Centauri.
Where are they located? Are they close to the most populated colonies?
No, they are far from populated areas, but their locations aren't an issue with intrasystem jump drives.
