Post feature Report RSS Intelligence Entry - Proxima Centauri League

First draft of the intelligence entry of the Proxima Centauri League, the dominant human government of the Alpha Centauri System.

Posted by on

The Proxima Centauri League governs the Alpha Centauri System. The namesake of the league is Proxima Centauri, the system’s primary sun. The Proxima Centauri League was declared in 2067, when the first group of entrepreneurs arrived in the system with their manufacturing and mining businesses. These businessmen signed a mutual trade agreement and formed the Proxima Centauri League. At first it was intended to be just business, but it did not take long until these profit-seeking gentlemen gained prominence in galactic politics as the result of the Alpha Centauri Civil War (2105-2107). They have controlled Alpha Centauri ever since.

Terraformation and colonization of the planets Yartis and Bardyn allowed settlers to move into
the system and be the first humans to seek permanent settlements outside the Sol System. The arrival of these settlers is a milestone in human history. It effectively started a new space age when humans were no longer restricted to their dying homeworld of Earth.

Of the two colonized planets, Yartis is the more populous. Teeming with humans from all walks of life, settlers who set foot on her surface find boundless possibilities to find work and a peaceful environment for their loved ones. Within only a few years, Yartis has become the center of contemporary human culture.
Bardyn, on the other hand, is an industrial world. Not only is she the richest source of aurorium – a very resistant extrasolar metal used on the state-of-the-art Blade-class cruisers -, she happens to be the largest exporter to Sirius Shipyards. This business is more than profitable.
It did not take long until these two colonies declared war on one another in 2105, on the 38th anniversary of the declaration of the Proxima Centauri League. An investigation conducted by Bardyn officials revealed that certain Yartisian regional dignitaries had helped pirates locate and loot Bardyn freighters. After two months of thorough scrutiny, ties were already leading to the highest echelon of the Yartis Confederacy. After two years of sporadic warfare, the Yartis Confederacy built the first Sirona-class destroyer, the YCD Washington, and destroyed the flagship of the Bardyn coalition, killing Admiral Tolberg. The two sides put an end to the civil war, and signed a peace treaty. The war, while indirectly cost millions of lives, brought about important advancements in military technology, such as fighter shielding and recharging afterburners.

Interesting back story.

Am I the only one following this? Have you got some exposure on the Hard Light Forums with this as well...?

Well, I'm a regular member there, but I don't advertise it.

HLP, as a forum, is an ideal place for actual releases and troubleshooting. For showing off progress, ModDB is a better place. I presume those who are interested in this in its WIP state are already watchers.

True, although I dont think the HLP people necessarily visit ModDB so I guess most peole wont know that this is in development.

Anyway, always good to see the updates for myself!

Everything seems so interesting, but there's something I really want to know: how do you explain such a early colonization of Alpha Centauri? In 2067, humanity will be barely able to start colonizing Mars.

The terraformation of these two planets and the declaration of the Proxima Centauri League were not simultaneous. The League existed before these two world were terraformed and colonized. It was only later that the PCL actually became the most prominent political alliance in the system.

But... isn't 2067 a bit too early?
