It will do the animation if you have them enabled.
And how will the script determine which helmet to wear if there are several of them in the inventory?
It will only put on the last helmet that was taken off using the hotkey.

Hi, I have dreamed about this mod for a long time!
But after reading the description, I realized that English - not my forte, so could you please explain what is the difference between the "hotkey" and "keybind"? I want to edit them in the script, but for this I need to know what they are doing)
The keyBind setting will use whichever key is bound to the specified action in the in-game keyboard configuration menu.
The dikKey setting can be used to specify a key directly, without needing to be bound to an action in-game.
If you need help, let me know which key you'd like to use, and I can give an example setup.

Yes!! I've long wanted exactly this.
After reloading the save, the script forgets about the helmet and stops working.
Could you do the same as in Metro - a simple press on "T" puts on the helmet, and holding "T" removes?
Can someone tell me what's the reason to unwear the mask?
Broken mask with cracks in it is really annoying when out field but no contacts around. Going to your faction base and knowing you have 2 hours worth of loot sorting and weapon part fixing is annoying with a helmet

Is this compatible with the ammo check addon? Also how do i bind a key to take the mask off or on? Edit: Nevermind it is compatible, and is the same keybind that you choose in the controls for wiping the mask, with the difference that you have to hold it. Great addon always wanted to be able to do this!

I think this is a very smart idea! The T to wipe mask has a very niche application and now it has more use. Good job!

Does this also work for exo/ SEVA suits?
Great mod been using it for a while! I have no idea how hard it would be to implement, but I’d like to suggest adding an animation to go alongside this. Maybe something as simple as the headlamp animation without the sounds of turning it off and on could work if timed correctly.
10/10, always wanted this. and holding down the clean mask button too not a dedicated key.

Super nice mod for 1.5.2, works great with the Gas Mask Symphonies mod which adds an SFX for taking on and off your mask.

Other that that, works like a charm.
I would only change one thing:
if helmet is off -> press hotkey to equip it
if helment is on -> hold hotkey to unequip it
