dude nice. Not bad for a first map at all man. Even my maps are bland in comparison. Only a few things i noticed. First, Odd choice of texture alignment and your choice of pathway and door sizes were a little strange. Enemy placement was too linear, easily punched through ever single enemy with berserk pack ha. Second, the secrets were way too obvious. Third, why did you bother giving a plasma rifle at the end if it was the end of the map. Do you plan on making a full episode? All in all man, those are just intended as my observations and friendly constructive criticism. Your blood falls and lava cracked floor room was impressive man, very well done. 3/5 man :D
So, first impressions:
Starting area looked good, great use of shading and detail as well as a sneaky first secret. When I got to the second secret however, there was a HOM effect as well as me not being able to get the items, I restarted and all of a sudden I could get to them? The next room consisted of pinkies and a few more items. The corridor though had clashing textures.
The larger room looked great, albeit a few more clashing textures. I couldn't find my way up again after the blue key however.
After using "Fly", the blue door lead me to some powerweapons/goodies yet the final door wouldn't open.
Was this really the wad? Or did you upload a test version by accident?
Note: Playing it on Zdoom 2.8.1 Although that likely shouldn't have been an issue.
the reupload is going m8 so yeah check it out later :D (go up the same stairs after the blood part. There are 3 secrets on this map.The last door is after the blue doors.)
Not bad man. The textures did clash a bit, but thats just ones opinion.
Learn how to use triggers and monster traps, that will add a lot to your map making.
One thing I do after I lay out my rooms, and get the basic flow of my maps, is go room by room, wall by wall, line up everything, making sure all the textures work with another as far as looks. I then add little details. Map making is all about the little details. The more small details you add, the more overall it becomes.
I play lots of maps, it helps to get ideas and to learn how things are done. Also, dont be afraid to load other peoples maps up and just check them out in a builder and see how they tick. Doing that helped me a **** ton.
All in all, I liked it. Was short, but it was cool. Throw some more rooms on there, add some triggers, more monsters, add **** tons of small details, decorations, etc. But above all, keep making maps!!!!!
Thanks for sharing your first map.
P.S. the "blood falls" room was bad ***. I really liked that.
thx m8 :D i know its small but as you seen i tested a LOT of things :P the shadows, doors, secrets, textures i learned how to align them, make shadows, know where the textures go (blood fall room :D) thx for your advices im making my next map right now :P
