Description

Fixed issue with it replacing the load order. This is the legendary sledgehammer, ported to Project Brutality, BDv20 and BDv19! For BDv19 and 20, it has a 50/50 chance of spawning with the chainsaw! For PB (Project Brutality) it drops with the "LabGuy" after he is killed! OR if you prefer different player modes or difficulties, there is an option for it to replace the saw at times still! Load after your prefered BD version and use the latest DEV (OR THE LOWEST FOR GZDOOM IS 1.8.10 FOR 2.0 OPEN GL USERS) Doom build! enjoy!

I can't describe how fun the first level of Doom 2 is with this. Mixing hammer swings with the knife and kick is way more satisfying than it should be. :)

Only thing I noticed was the primary swing looks more like the sledge is turning 90 degrees rather than being swung towards an unlucky imp's skull.

With that said, I'll be using this whenever I play from hereon out. Great job!

hmm you made the Labguy drop it? Didn't think of that. Problem with that is now it won't ever show up on later levels or people using Classic Mode, Traditional v20, Tier 2, 3 and 4 difficulty levels. I'd add it as a Chainsaw spawn too.

Whenever I try to launch with Brutal DOOM v20b, the Zandronum launcher says, "Execution could not continue. Script error, 'BDV20_Sledge.wad:DECORATE' line 10: 'weapon.bobrangex' is an unknown actor property.", which sucks, because I was looking forward to this. What can I do to make it work?

So I went to make my weapon wheel mod compatible with this, and while I was attempting to do so, I noticed that this makes the game crash if you're either in Classic v20b or Traditional mode. I don't think you necessarily need to implement the sledge in these modes, but it probably shouldn't cause the game to crash either. I don't know the names of the functions off the top of my head, but perhaps in the Select state a A_JumpIfInventory("IsPlayingAsPurist", "GoFists") and A_JumpIfInventory("IsPlayingAsTraditional", "GoTraditionalFists") together with a A_SetWeapon("Melee_Attacks") under the GoFists state and a A_SetWeapon("Traditional_Fist") under the GoTraditionalFists state would do the trick? (Like I said, the names and syntax of the DECORATE functions are probably wrong, but hopefully you know what I mean.)

EDIT: This was the lab guy version for PB. Didn't check the other version.

P.S.: Is there a reason why you decided to make this a sledgehammer instead of an ax? I was actually thinking of making an ax mod myself because the fact that the lab guy doesn't drop an ax really bothered me. lol The problem is that I haven't the slightest idea how to make sprites / animate them. I imagine there's no shortcut to making original sprites, but if you have some base sprites to work with, is there any trick to putting together animations?

oh? i don't remember adding it to use in the other classes at all! Just the main one! Is it still an issue? and well, i figured since you can swing the saw, an axe wont make a difference :) and oh i can definitely help you with sprites! Just PM me any questions you have or anything else and i'll help in any way!

Haha thanks! :) Although this is just DoomNukems from his test3 mod with some touchups as it was discontinued and had lacking code date and other things. I know i mightve added one or two things but thats all haha i try!

A great weapon addon. The Sledgehammer is good against less numerous stronger enemies (I took with it on Cacodemon on Man and a Half difficulty), as it encourages hit-and-run tactics more than the Chainsaw, which requires to stay close to target for a (often) dangerous amount of time. And I always prefered strong-but-slow rather than quick-but-weak weapons. Caving in huge holes in zombies never felt so good!

I have three requests, however:
- Can you make the swing longer and capable of hitting multiple enemies? This would make the Sledge more effective in crowds.
- Could the Weapon Special (for Project Brutality) be a simple thrust forward that pushes enemies far away?
- Berserk does not seem to affect the Sledge. Make it so!

I absolutely love this. Been using it for a while, and it's a much needed addition for the PB arsenal.

I'd just like to point out: I recently downloaded and installed the HXRTC HUD v7.0 for PB2.03a, and when the sledgehammer is selected, it doesn't give an icon where weapon icons appear.

Other than that, this is an absolute 10/10.

Update: tested this with DoomGuy66's "Death Obituaries" (https://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom/addons/death-obituaries/#6365488) which I downloaded earlier today. With this addon loaded in ZDL (after the sledgehammer), the sledge didn't spawn upon killing the lab guy. Tried over and over. As strange as this may sound, I hope it proves useful.

I use the PB_Sledge(LabGuy).pk3

The lab guy might not be the exact same as PB's, either because of a ton of issues or only one such as a different name of the labguy in the code. Either way, i'm sorry about the confusion, and that i havent made it compatible with that mod :(
