The MountainsDogfightExtended.rar file can be unpacked, where you want:
be careful !! In the folder obtained, you will find another folder with the same name: MountainsDogfightExtended : take this last one, and, ( for the default installation path)
- for 32 bit computers, include it in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels:
- for 64 bit computer, include it in C:\Program Files(x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels:
- path may, of course, vary with your own installation.
Do not be frightened by the weight (422mo) of the map; It's just the result of using very detailed textures; no more !
The relief of the map was created, starting from DEM
coming from the north of Italy (Digital Elevation Model);
Then covered with a texture made from aerial orthophotos.
And therefore, the landscape you are going to fly over in the game, therefore exists really;
And to be more precise, it is a region situated on the border between the Garda Lake
and the south of Italian Trentino: If you are curious, you can find it via Google Earth.
Finally, and for the solo gamemode, we have a playable space of 1024x4, suitable for air flight, and surrounded by a similar terrain, in many points of view: therefore 12 km x 12km;
But, the main difference with the first version of the map is that, in LAN, with your friends, you can use all the available space for crazy aerial pursuits or you can also fly more comfortable and enjoy the vision of beautiful landscapes.
In this case, I advise you to completely remove the HUD and the warning message of the combat area: for that, once in the map, open the console, and type this: renderer.drawHud 0
Once you want to return to normal, type : renderer.drawHud 1
In the solo, coop and conquest mode, unlike the first version of the map, you have access to all aircrafts and Choppers, in a more intuitive way: on the ground, some bunkers and missiles Stingers to protect you: minimum of 32 bots are recommended for intensive gameplay.
Furthermore the map is parametrized to allow aircrafts to fly extremely high, much higher than the mountain peaks, here 2145 m.
- Immersion :
i strongly advise the use of a good joystick for flight, as well as, for an even closer experience of reality, using the mousse look.
So the cockpit view becomes panoramic and makes it easier to follow the positions of the opponents: immersion in the game is then greatly improved. Otherwise, the Bf2FreeLook from Kestrel can be usefull if you have a 32 bit computer; and only with the game box.
There are still a few artifacts in spite of the care taken in the realization of the map, problems inherent to the game itself: since this is a 1024x4 map, you will have to remove the dynamic shadows in the video options, and the caracteristic ugly black spots will disappear: something else, do not be surprised if the bots are always suicidal in the mountains, I have failed to tam them; Lol !
