Have you ever wanted to crouch down to the ground while you line up that lethal sniper shot? Would you ever be willing to crawl between the anomalies to evade your sworn enemies? Do you ever crave the sensation of wriggling through a concrete pipe? All of this, and many other benefits, will be available in this mod.
EDIT (07/04/2022): This addon is no longer being worked on as I am pursuing other S.T.A.L.K.E.R. projects and mods for other games, though elements of this mod may be used in any future projects that I work on.
This is just a simple mod that allows the player to crouch a lot lower than usual. It's just a minor touch that adds some more realism into the game.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- After numerous tests, I can conclude that this mod is compatible with all installations of Call of Chernobyl. However, please notify me if I am incorrect.
- You will be able to crouch down to the ground with this mod. I've never been a huge fan of the default crouch height (when you hold SHIFT and CTRL simultaneously).
INSTALLATION:
1. Extract it, then copy the gamedata folder and use it to overwrite your current gamedata folder. Remember to back your files up! Make a copy of your original actor.ltx file prior to applying this mod, if possible.
2. Remember to have fun with it! Please tell me about your experiences with this mod.
DISCLAIMER:
A few of the values that were implemented into the actor.ltx file for this mod were borrowed from the actor.ltx file from the STALKERSOUP mod. However, these changes are only limited to the player's ability to crouch a lot lower than usual, as opposed to myself just directly porting all of the contents of that file (or the file itself) over to Call of Chernobyl. Due to this, I would have to give credit to TecnoBacon for actually making it possible for me to make this mod via them publishing STALKERSOUP on this website (that of which I would highly recommend that you check out).
how does 3rd person view look like? will bots use it aswell?
This mod only adjusts the camera height of the player while they are using the secondary crouch stance (by holding SHIFT and CTRL simultaneously). Their default crouching animations will remain present, and the same applies for any NPC characters that you may come across.
It is exactly for this reason why I don't personally like mods like this (Anomaly has it as well.) I feel like I do not have full control of my character's hitbox with the camera being moved. After years of playing Stalker, you get used to the camera's positioning in reference to your character's body.
I hope I'm not coming off as mean or anything - just commenting.
I completely agree. I normally alternate between this mod and the original actor.ltx, but the camera height setup in this mod is my go-to choice for my playthroughs that focus on realism.
All in all, I still have a strong preference for diversity; this ensures that everyone is able to find something that they enjoy. :)
so can you be spotted just as easily if you were prone if in third person you're just crouching? or visibly you look like you're crouching but really you are out of enemy sight?
Which lines exactly were edited?
I compared the 1.5 actor.ltx but there are too many changes in it.
On the other hand... Stokker has a point... but I would like to test it out^^
Lines 43 to 48 have been edited in the actor.ltx file for this mod, ranging from "ph_box0_center" to "ph_box2_size". I have STALKERSOUP installed on my PC, that of which has allowed me to borrow the values from the default actor.ltx value that pertain to that game.
Taking a page out of Stokker's book, I have come to infer that they do in fact determine the hitbox of the actor, but I have only been successful in observing the changes in the actor's camera height (excluding their model) upon crouching.
Disregarding the actor's hitbox, the information between, and including, line 63 and line 66 (ranging from "hit_probability_gd_novice" to "hit_probability_gd_master") may be worth testing out. I might set some time aside to experiment with these.
My games differs a lot from the original one... so difficulty is completely different.
Thanks for the lines, will check it out later. :)
Does this work with 1.5?
If you modify the lines RussianSniper117 told me above, it should work.
Will test it out for myself now.
LONG EXPLANATION: From what I have observed, the simplicity of this mod - with it only consisting of an actor.ltx file - would render it as being compatible with all versions of Call of Chernobyl, as long as they utilize an actor.ltx file.
SHORT EXPLANATION: Yes, it does.
Hope this helps. :)
Yep. It works, but 1.5 users should not use the actor.ltx
I suggest to copy over the lines 43-48.
Tested it, most thing that makes it not usable for me is the fact, that is doesn't match with the player shadow which gives the situation itself are very strange visual.
well im playin that way and the camera angle is why ilime it.Thiz too good job agaim
I use such settings from the first stalker. It allows me to pass through most of the tight spaces - through pipes and windows, and under trucks.
The view in the third person still looks like a strange crouch, I call it "slavic squat".
The following settings work under each version of the game.
My set in actor.ltx file:
ph_box0_center = 0.0, 0.90, 0.0
ph_box0_size = 0.20, 0.90, 0.20
ph_box1_center = 0.0, 0.60, 0.0
ph_box1_size = 0.20, 0.60, 0.20
ph_box2_center = 0.0, 0.35, 0.0
ph_box2_size = 0.20, 0.35, 0.20
The middle value of ph_box2 determines the degree of low crouch and the view from the eyes of the character.
Okay. I'll have to keep this in mind if I ever mod any actor.ltx files in the future.
Unfortunately in my settings is a trap - you can fall into almost every hole. ;)
How do I view the actor.ltx file from this and add it into my gamedata directory?
Judging by the above, I can merge the actor file with Smurf's Hud files...
