This is a Zandronum compatible flashlight/Torch mod as done by Sergeant Mark IV in Brutal Doom but in a modular format.
This should be compatible with other weapon mods as it is not bound to any weapon.
Instead of a beam that is found in other Zandronum compatible light mods this one shows a spot light and will alert monsters.
UPDATE 1
UPDATE 2
- Revised default key binding.
Credits:
Sergeant Mark IV for creating the Brutal Doom flashlight/torch
Sector lighting mode set to "dark" + Brutal Doom 64 + this mod = a perfect amalgamation between old school doom and Doom 3
Thanks swc, a seemingly insignificant feature like a flashlight makes Brutal Doom 64 so much better!
great. thanks a lot.
Thank you very much for this.
I have a request though; could you change the command to toggle the flashlight from "ToggleFlashlight" to "flashlightswitch" since that's what BD currently uses? Other than consistency, It'll allow me to use the same ini file I usually do with other mods and Zandronum without having to change bindings.
I'd greatly appreciate that.
No problem. I can sort that out for the next update.
Thank you!
I tried editing it myself and I seem to have got it working. No issues so far, but I'm not a coder so I may have missed out something: <removed>
I'll remove it when you update it.
Edit: removed since it is now redundant.
I have released the update. I took a look at your edit, it is fine. The only difference is the default key is set to F instead mouse 5 but that is just for preference.
Thank you for the quick response. God bless.
thanks, it's probably the best flashlight
Thanks! I lacked such a flashlight in brutal doom v20!
After lots of further testing and experimenting, i can confirm that this mod works perfectly fine with Brutal Wolfenstein 3D, Zbloody Hell and Bloom. I bet it's going to work with pretty much anything that you'll throw into gzdoom or zandronum. Good stuff indeed :)
Thanks, that is good to know. There are better light mods out there but not Zandronum compatible, hence trying to find a way to successfully extract this light from BDv21 and make it work standalone.
This mod is good because it's universally compatible with a very wide variety of megawads and the framerate impact of flashlight is rather low. I used a different flashlight mod before, and under certain circumstances it even reduced the framerate literally in half, which is completely unacceptable. This one, however, never makes my game laggy.
Hey man, thanks very much for this standalone flashlight, works fine with Project MSX in LZDoom 3.88a.
