This addon rebalances starting equipment and supplies to give more variety in the early game. Now compatible with Anomaly 1.5.0 Update 4. (If this is outdated, only use the "Without_Improved_Condition" gamedata folder and it should still be compatible.)
Tired of every survivalist start devolving into stripping a busted AK74 off a dead body and dealing with jams until you can afford a decent gun? Sad that an entire class of early-game guns are completely ignored because they aren't worth the repair costs? Confused why anyone would take an Echo detector when Fanatic gives it out for free? This addon addresses it all!
Every faction now has its own small selection of lower-tier guns to introduce variety into early game, and pistols are no longer part of the default loadout. Costs of all supplies were rebalanced to match more closely with trader price differences (medkits were used as the cost "anchor"). Drugs, artifact gear, and cooking supplies are more cost effective relative to other items to encourage different starting playstyles. Starting money is doubled to allow an actually useful purchase before leaving base.
(Optional) Starting gear condition is changed from 75-85 to 92-96 to allow early gear maintenance and keep those starting guns running longer. This extends the early game feel and puts more focus on saving up for better armor.
Update v2:
This update swaps out some of the Ecologist weapons with shotguns to reflect the early game enemies they'll be facing. It also tweaks a couple weapon prices to be more in line with other weapons and gives the Mercs/Monolith a more accurate shotgun with a lower firerate.
Update v3:
This update tweaks the default supplies of various factions. Military/Mercs now start with a grenade, Ecologists now start with a better gas mask, a pack of bolts, and a lead box, Clear Sky now starts with a hunting knife to skin boars, Freedom gets one (1) beer, and Renegades get a sleeping bag, worse vodka and a bug fix.
Credit to Dawn's Improved Starting Loadout and Audixas' Various Tweaks addons for the origin of several of these ideas
Thanks for this. You do end up just skipping early tier guns because you can't maintain or repair any of them, and go straight to mid-late guns you get in drops.
i think the echo detector is for those who play other factions or other mode.
Yeah but its still a worthless starting option considering how cheap they are.

I litteraly made this last night because I couldn't be arsed backhand makaroving people to death.
Thanks for a well thought out version!
Makaroving JAJAJAJAJAJA
This is great, personally I cba to bother with artifact hunts until I got a better detector, so I kind of janked myself, this plus the ability to fast travel back and forth improves things mutchly.
Thanks for changing the survivalist loadout so you actually get more than just a handgun. I would like to suggest a better Ecologist starting outfit, maybe the Ecologist guard outfit. Only because no ecologist wears a leather jacket and their starting locations are as dangerous as a Merc or Monolith.
That's a good point. I want to play through the beginning of various factions before changing much else, but I'll definitely do a pass on the default supplies for each faction. Ecologists in particular are tricky since all their outfits are better than any other starting option, and they have very few enemies down south. I might instead go the route of having their default loadout be a Bear detector and better helmet so they can dive anomalies immediately.
Is this compatible with update 3?
"Update v3 tweaks the default loadout of some factions. Compatible with Anomaly 1.5.0 Update 3."
;)
Is this also compatible with update 4?
Does this work with update 4? I know the title says 3, but I'd like to know fi it's compatible with 4. Nice work, btw. This was sorely needed.
It does now!
Is the UNISG supposed to start with a camouflaged m9?
Thanks for this, I had to re install stalker many times, this will reduce the grind for the beginning. Cheers !
Definitely one of my favorite addons! Damn good!
but stalker is about being a HOBO Bum! You cant into stalker if you dont play with Garbage gear on purpose. Rookie Outfit from Cordon- Radar Is for true stalkers.
Meme and jokes aside, thanks for the mod. It makes the early game guns used more.
Did it work with 1.5.1 ?
Had a seemingly isolated incident with crashing for a while but otherwise it seems to be working just fine. Watch my comment below.
Is this still getting updated? I just started getting crashes running this in 1.5.1 with BaS and trader overhaul (among other mods though I felt these were relevant to mention).
I was able to start a game at first and played for a while. However an hour or so in and some time after moving into another area, the game ended up crashing once I tried reloading saves. From there on I couldn't reload any saves or start new games with the mod installed, though after uninstalling it I was able to recover my save. Pretty much the mod just started crashing after a while even though it was running fine at the start. Anything I can do?
Here's the pasted stack trace logs from crashing the game three times:

Edit: So I moved to another area, reloaded the mod, and suddenly it's working fine again lol no crashing from saves or new game. Still curious about the crashing though if you can find out why?
Consider yourself lucky bud! I can't even start my new game with this mod (and it's sad because I love it).
I had to disable it, will wait for 1.5.1 compatibility (perhaps?)
I just started yet another run and it's working still! Might be something from my other mods? Either way let's hope he does update it soon because I am still a bit worried.
i can't even start the game with the mod
which is a shame, also i would like to see more early game pistols like Hi Powers for CS and Freedom, and Tokarev and CZ52 for bandits and loners
will there be an update for 1.5.1?

For anyone waiting on a compatibility patch maybe try this instead? Compatible with 1.5.1 and also very easy to edit yourself.

Why are the pistols so expensive, point wise?
They're like 200+ out of 1350
1.5.1 update pls
1.5.1 I am using the without_improved_condition one but it still doesn't work ?
The mod is now broken with 1.5.1, please update when you can
