Post news Report RSS V1.2: New Helicopters, Remodeled M16, and More!

Operation Remembrance V1.2 is on the way, with new helicopters, remodeled M16s and XM177s, and functioning sights for rocket and grenade launchers!

Posted by on

I know a lot of people out there have been waiting for V1.2 of Operation Remembrance, and I'm sorry that it's been so long since the last update. This article would have been out in early July, but I had an unfortunate accident and a file was corrupted, costing me a full two months' worth of work. On the plus side, I was able to redo the work in significantly less time, and in the process began implementing new ways to streamline the code and reduce file sizes, so Operation Remembrance will be better off than ever before.

I can't really provide an estimate for V1.2's release date. I'm hoping to have it out by the end of the year, but I don't know for sure. At this point, I still have to add about two dozen more vehicles and small arms, rework a number of the faction/character models, perform a massive overhaul of the bot code, completely redo the kit system, and edit all of the maps to bring them up to standard with the new features, in addition to adding new maps. So V1.2 is going to be a while, but I can guarantee that it's on its way.

In the meantime, here's a look at some new helicopters that I've added, and remodeled versions of the M16 and the XM177:

And also, here are some preview images of the new sights for Operation Remembrance's rocket launchers and grenade launchers. As of this point, every rocket/grenade launcher in the mod (with the exception of the guided Redeye and SA-7), from the M20 Bazooka to the M79 grenade launcher and the M67 recoilless rifle to the RPG-18, has functional sights that can be used to adjust for the rocket/grenade's trajectory at range. V1.2 will come with a folder of pictures explaining how to use each weapon's sight, and these are a few examples.

I can only concur with skej on this. However, once this new version (which could be the final version of this mod) is released, is there a chance that a *complete* WWII mod can be made for Battlefield Vietnam???

I never intended there to be a V1.3 of Operation Remembrance, but it looks like that might happen anyway. There are some features that I want to have in it that just wouldn't be ready in time for V1.2 to have a decent release date, so there could be one more version after this one. As for a complete WW2 mod, we'll see... I do have other, non-modding projects that I want to move on to, but I have had the motivation to start working on a WW2 mod from time to time, so maybe.

You should attempt to use version control to save your work.

So many modders end up losing data due to tempramental game engines with their unique file types, or due to their own PC. So many mods I have seen fail because of data loss and modders giving up due to months (or years) of lost work. It's so painful to watch, you are all essentially doing software development without any of the safeguards software devs use (and for no reason!).

It takes an afternoon to learn to use version control, and it saves you months and becomes a skill you keep forever.

This is github, it is free to use: Github.com

Here is a simple explainer and guide: Webtuu.com

Take an afternoon and learn it, and you won't lose data again. Don't use it and I gurantee you will lose more work in the future, 100%.

Not a problem. Normally I regularly back up my files on a weekly basis, but I had forgotten to do it for a while. And the file only got corrupted because of a mistake I made. It wouldn't have happened if I hadn't gotten careless.

I think that's probably about right, depending on how long it takes for me to do certain things.

Great news! We are still having some issues with multiplayer LAN connectivity on some of the maps, getting kicked out after death instead of normal respawning. I don't know if that is something you have time to look at or not, but I figured I would mention it just in case. Thanks for your hard work, we really enjoy it.

Anything related to online play, especially over LAN, really isn't my specialty. I would recommend heading over to HelloClan.eu and asking for "IceSkater" or "LTShaun". They're the ones who are most likely to be able to help.
